UL Football To Portal or not to Portal .

National leader is Colorado with 52. I think it worked for them. National average is around 20.

SBC leaders are Marshall with 29 and Texas State with 41. Marshall beat ECU by 18. Texas State beat Baylor. Appears to be working for them.

    We have 4.

Marshall beat Albany by only 4, and Texas State lost to UTSA. We are literally two games into the season. Let's take a deep breath.

Colorado has 10 transfers that followed from Jackson State. They also have 26 from other P5 schools. Let's see how the season ends before jumping to conclusions.

I think you have to take transfers or you will perpetually be way too young. Only way to compete year in year out is to take some. And continue to build some freshman over the years to keep the pipeline. Your better ones will leave after sophomore or junior years but that's just the new age of CFB.

Colorado makes roughly $15M per home game just in ticket sales. They had about 40 players they wanted to keep that left.

We can’t live in the portal and survive. Portal players, especially good ones, aren’t free. Have y’all not realized that?

I'm not talking about the prized expensive ones.

The transfer portal is a chicken and egg situation. For players to transfer to a school, there needs to be a reason for them to want to be at that school. Could be NIL money, a particular coach, a particular city, school atmosphere, prestige, playing time. There are a million possibilities.

We act like it's all so easy--UL will become more talented, more successful, and more attractive if we simply scooped up some better players in the portal. But it needs to be attractive first; otherwise, those players won't come here to begin with and the cycle never begins.

The Portal is not a Panacea. It can be a lifesaver, but it will be the road to ruin if you rely on it for everything, every year or completely ignore it.

We may be a little too close to the second one. We need to use it more.

In the tx st / Baylor game the announcers said they had 53 transfer in.

It’s a little bit of both. I’m definitely more inclined to building from the ground up but it’s getting harder and harder to do that today.

Those are usually the good ones.

Seems like if you don't work the portal to plug some holes your program is more susceptible to becoming a portal victim rather than portal victor. We used to sign a few JUCO's for same reason so what's the big deal about using the portal if it helps construct the team?

Are there any stats as to how many entered the portal but then stayed where they were?

Well we just need older guys that don't have the tape from their P5 schools and hope we hit on a couple. Same as taking a JUCO kid.

One of them was Tyler Brown from UL.
