This deserved its own thread. For those that keep proclaiming Des was a budget hire.

Ga So Hired Clay Helton the same year as Des. He is in his 2nd season. According to an Advertiser article written Dec 7, 2021 Des will make 775k annually. Clay Helton former head coach in the pac 12 at USC, will make 700k his first year and then will increases to an 800k average throughout his contract, according to the link below.

Des’ contract is right in line with a fellow sunbelt member and one could argue a coach with a tad bit more experience.

To say Des was just a way to get off cheap is idiotic, because he is making what any first year coach would make at Louisiana and right at the average in new hires in the Belt.

We can blame who we want to but for me I look at schools like ULM, App St., TxSt USA heck most of the schools in our conference of whom they are scheduling at home compared to UL why would anyone want to go to our games. Who cares about Miami of Ohio not me. Give the people a reason to go the CF and they will come look at the crowds for GSU, Southern, Tx AM, Oklahoma St. Sometime you got to give the people what they want.

Interesting..... good idea. But couldn't the buzz be built whether there is a real search or not?

How do you know the experts being paid to search are putting their best foot forward and where are they years down the road to see if their recommendation was good?

I disagree this city has never really supported this University. You might get a few for a game every now and then but overall the people of Lafayette could care less about athletics at UL. That is how I have seen it the past 45 years of living in this area.

Depending or expecting people to just show up because they are alums or from the city is a terrible strategy. I hate the graduates who cross the basin but UL hasn’t always given them the best reason to show up.

You, me and everyone else on this forum isn’t who they need to market to. Get in the community and build excitement. Stop expecting someone to show up, when most of the time they don’t know you are playing until they drive by and see cars.

In order to determine fair market value for Coach Des, lets take us (Ragin Cajuns) completely out of the scenario. The question now becomes:

Would any other NCAA D1 football program in the country have hired Coach Des as head coach for the same amount we are paying him?

If the answer is yes, then we got a fair deal.
If the answer is no, then we overpaid.
