Poor game day experience, poor facilities and poor opponent. Thats why fans didnt show up under Napier. Who came to Cajun Field while Napier was here that got anyone excited?
It’s the administration’s job to put butts in the seats through marketing, making the right hires, bringing in quality opponents, and creating a gameday environment people want to enjoy. If conference opponents are the only ones they can hang their hat on getting in to Cajun Field, that isn’t saying much. Our gameday issues and lack of marketing prowess are well documented. After back to back Top 25 seasons, I think a significant piece of the fanbase was expecting more than an unqualified, maybe pan out one day hire. I was hoping Troy would be a rock bottom/wake up call day for the administration. From what I’ve seen since then, I’m not too confident. They seem to be more entrenched than ever in the narrative that they are doing all they can,
and the community is just failing them. Like most things the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. We are failing this community every bit as much as they are failing us.
Losing Trey Amos and Kam P were big factors in my view. We may not have financial resources to compete like we did in Napier years. World has changed greatly in 2 years. Those finances are not necessarily community support. I am talking about individuals who can help with NIL. On the field, it will be interesting to see if defensive coaches can adjust to fast pace kscheme ODU used last night. Of course opponents will incorporate some of that into their plans.
