In other words we pay more for no experience than others in our peer group pay for experience. Makes you wonder.... could there be other supplemental monies from other sources?

It just shows what the market rate is for a Belt job in the first contract. Also shows that Doc wasn’t trying to budget hire when he chose Mike, he just paid Belt average. Now if he would have payed Monroe money then we could be having the budget hire conversation.

Helton and Bowden are still getting paid from former contracts. They can take a cut in pay to keep their name out there.

Check out S. Alabama’s deal. That was a unicorn last year. Usually you get what you pay for.

Des will get his 3 years, no need to be concern until December ‘24, providing stadium is on schedule. If stadium construction moves into ‘25, he’ll get extended. UL isn’t foolish enough to bring in a new coach with a stadium in shambles.

The fact that Helton and Bowden have other contracts doesn’t change what the schools are willing to pay them. Neither had better opportunities when they took their current jobs.

I think he would have taken it for a couple of hundred less because he loves this place and it means that much to him. That’s just my opinion. But had that been the offer Doc would be telling his whole fan base that he under values his coach.

My understanding of all the DEZ pay talk is, yes we paid him Sunbelt average for an average sunbelt experience but others wanted a higher caliber coach and willing to pay a higher salary since Admin was willing to up Napiers pay. That is my cliff notes understanding.

To argue it wasn’t the right hire is your opinion and a fair argument. To argue it was done to strictly save money and hire on the cheap, as many do, is just factually incorrect.
