Yes, but Option 2 is an extremely hypothetical scenario only applicable in case of emergency. It's not like the extra back-up 2 mil would be part of the plan all along, readily accessible and accountable. Yet, that's the rationale you're effectively applying to the replacement.
Otherwise, why not just say "Let's offer Napier 4, 5, 6 mil because, hell, we can find the money somewhere if we have to."
Look, this is moving towards something that is not productive to this board. The bottom line is we will never start a coach out at $2M plus. We don’t have the resources to do that here.
Every football contract will resemble what Napier and Des started at. Somewhere in the $650-$800k range with incentives. The top range we can pay anyone is $2-2.5M. We won’t go over that and until we can poop another $25M in operating budget for athletics that’s where we will be.
It’s more important to have the funds for assistants and support staff. Keep bringing in really good athletes and develop them. That’s what this program is, like it or not. If we have a superstar underclassmen they will likely get poached. We simply can’t compete with the top 50 programs NIL budget wise.
. . . poof . . .
What are you even trying to say? There were people here who were willing to pony up enough money to get Napier to $3M. I’m pretty sure several people including JMV were told that from reliable info.
Your post comes off as just being a contrarian and not based in anything of substance. Again, it’s a moot point talking about Napier, he’s gone. If given enough time he will win at Florida. I doubt he gets that time.
Des is growing as a HC at this level, it sucks we have to watch his growing pains. But the guy does it the right way, says the right things, he will also never be good enough for his detractors. If he doesn’t get it together he will just get one contract here.
This thread and every subsequent thread regarding Des is useless. He’s the HMFIC and will be for the length of his contract. We just need to support the program as he grows.
...and if a former 3 or 4 star athlete is pushed out of playing time at another school and enters the Portal, it is our responsibilty to evaluate that player to see if he can help us here. That is the new reality, like it or not.
Only relying on player development now means permanent mediocrity at best.
