Thread: Coach Desormeaux

. . . it's easy to support your position with only your facts which fit your arguments in a vacuum . . . the problem is it don't work that way . . . many of these things are fluid . . . how long Napier would stay . . . how much would he require . . . how he would do each year . . . what fan attendance and RCAF participation would do . . . economy . . . what Louisiana will get from time to time from the State . . . all of these factor into the decisions that are made from time to time . . . when Napier left, we were broke, the state was broke, economy was in a shambles, attendance was marginal, RCAF support had not risen . . . considering all of these factors, a decision was made that CMD was the best choice at the time . . .

I promise you he wasn't sent here. Nobody and I mean nobody in the UL administration likes this guy.

Yes, but Option 2 is an extremely hypothetical scenario only applicable in case of emergency. It's not like the extra back-up 2 mil would be part of the plan all along, readily accessible and accountable. Yet, that's the rationale you're effectively applying to the replacement.

Otherwise, why not just say "Let's offer Napier 4, 5, 6 mil because, hell, we can find the money somewhere if we have to."

No... I'm saying you could find the difference between Napier's salary when he left and Des' salary when he started.. and then you could conduct a real coaching search

. . . why do you think that was still there any more than the 4, 5, 6 mil that was not there . . . many folks here are making assumptions which they can't back up other than by JMV, who has proven to be one of the most unreliable posters on the board . . .

Look, this is moving towards something that is not productive to this board. The bottom line is we will never start a coach out at $2M plus. We don’t have the resources to do that here.

Every football contract will resemble what Napier and Des started at. Somewhere in the $650-$800k range with incentives. The top range we can pay anyone is $2-2.5M. We won’t go over that and until we can poop another $25M in operating budget for athletics that’s where we will be.

It’s more important to have the funds for assistants and support staff. Keep bringing in really good athletes and develop them. That’s what this program is, like it or not. If we have a superstar underclassmen they will likely get poached. We simply can’t compete with the top 50 programs NIL budget wise.

Correct. If you want to compare Napier to Des year one to year one, year 2 to year 2 and so on is the only way to do it. Unless Nick Saban is willing to come here any coach we hire will start in that range.

What are you even trying to say? There were people here who were willing to pony up enough money to get Napier to $3M. I’m pretty sure several people including JMV were told that from reliable info.

Your post comes off as just being a contrarian and not based in anything of substance. Again, it’s a moot point talking about Napier, he’s gone. If given enough time he will win at Florida. I doubt he gets that time.

Des is growing as a HC at this level, it sucks we have to watch his growing pains. But the guy does it the right way, says the right things, he will also never be good enough for his detractors. If he doesn’t get it together he will just get one contract here.

This thread and every subsequent thread regarding Des is useless. He’s the HMFIC and will be for the length of his contract. We just need to support the program as he grows.

...and if a former 3 or 4 star athlete is pushed out of playing time at another school and enters the Portal, it is our responsibilty to evaluate that player to see if he can help us here. That is the new reality, like it or not.

Only relying on player development now means permanent mediocrity at best.
