If that's your gut feeling, then OK we'll see what happens...

If that's the university's stance, then we might as well quit discussing it, as that's all the confirmation you need that they are not committed to building a successful program.

Of course like everyone else, I am hopeful that Des can figure it out and take us to even greater heights than we saw under BN, making this entire conversation seem foolish in hindsight.
If he runs a clean program and doesn’t embarrass the administration, he won’t be on the hot seat. We must perform better, but it’s still early in the season.

Then we can all reminisce about the old days when were Top 25 for a couple seasons.

The coach -- just as much as a new stadium, flashy recruiting class, etc -- drives interest in the program from the public. We hired 'same old same old' with a headset, and if this season is a failure, especially with our pathetic schedule, continuing to be committed to this staff is just confirmation to the fans that the school is perfectly fine giving football the Marlin treatment
. . . maybe LSU or Bama might be good teams for you . . . Oh, but each has already lost a game this year . . . oh well . . .

. . . I believe the door is open for people who want to bring big checks and there is a collective set up for your contribution in an attempt to compete somewhat with NIL for player retention and attention . . . I’m sure you will be doing your part to help Louisiana become what you think it should be. . . . you know bring the level up a notch or two, correct . . .

C'mon, man. Clean program? No embarrassment? That's setting the bar low. Those are the same standards to which we hold Coach Marlin and the basketball program.

What are you talking about? I'm not a fan of either, but if I were I would at least be confident that if any of their coaches repeatedly delivered mediocrity, they would try to replace them with someone better. Their admin and boosters would demand it, and their players and fans would expect it. Meanwhile the bar here is apparently to give someone half a decade to show results just because he's a nice guy and "one of us".

If Napier had turned down Florida he'd be making 2.5x what Des currently makes... so how would we be paying him?

. . . this is patently false . . . If my aunt had a . . . oh you know . . . prove it . . . if he turned down Florida he would be making over 10 times what Des makes, somewhere else . . . how hard is that for you folks to conceptualize . . . apparently very hard . . . try reality for a moment and maybe it would ease your misery . . .

Again, what are you talking about?

He was under contract thru 2025. Are you saying the school's plan was to NOT pay him if he was still here?

The athletic budget had a line item in it thru 2025 that said "Football Coach: $2+ million".. but when Napier left, that money disappeared?

And it's basic math. If Napier turned down Florida, he would've needed more money than his current $7.4 million per year.

Desormeaux currently makes about $800,000 per year.

Those two salaries aren't even on the same planet.

The standards may be low, but they are what they are. The last coach we fired for strictly performance was Ricky Bustle over a decade ago, and he got 9 seasons.

Regardless, any talk of the hotseat for Des is obscenely premature.

I'm not talking about Napier specifically. Our athletic budget accounted for a $2m football coach thru 2025.

Our coach leaves and suddenly we can't afford to offer anyone.

. . . it disappeared because the source money promised for that line item was to pay Napier, not any other unnamed coach . . .

. . . MH kept the $2m for support staff . . . it matters not what the schools plan is for a coach that had risen beyond its financial capability to pay and was leaving for $$$ greener pastures . . . CBN was never going to coach another year here because we could no longer afford him . . . how hard is that to understand . . .

Read jax’s post again. Napier’s Florida salary has nothing to do with the discussion.
