The old jail next to the Acadia Parish Courthouse will soon be home to new offices for Acadia Parish officials.
A $650,000 dollar grant is paying for the project that will provide much needed office space on the bottom floor and storage space on the second floor.
Officials say they are saving money by renovating rather than buying a new building.
"If they had to tear it down it'd cost a lot of money to tear it up and clear it up, so anything that can save money for the Parish taxpayers, that's what we try and do," says Lee Hebert, who is overseeing the project.
The police jury members will have new offices and they say they are looking forward to the change:
"It's going to be nice, we'll have more space; I think everybody's excited about moving into it," says Terry Lacombe.
Clean up started in February, but the building still has a ways to go.
The Acadia Parish Police Jury will discuss renovation plans at the committee meeting on April 6th.
No official completion date is set.
