Thread: MD: Wooldridge 'faster' than before injury

  1. UL Football MD: Wooldridge 'faster' than before injury

No coach wants to see their quarterback streaking down the field in chase.

In Louisiana football's 38-13 season-opening victory over Northwestern State Saturday night, senior quarterback Ben Wooldridge — less than 10 months removed from tearing his ACL in his right knee — took off after Cadillac Rhone in a full-sprint.

Maybe LL1 was crazy quick, and had great 20 yard speed he’s not catching that guy. Ben put it into gear and that Cadillac was getting caught.

That was impressive. Saved any points for sure. I'm happy with Ben running if he's okay with it. We need that extra threat on offense.

I thought his suddenness and directional changes within the pocket were not great. Straight line speed may have been fine but that quick lateral movement to avoid rushers left a bit to be desired. But it's just the first game back so hopefully that improves.

I think some of that had to do with as you say, the first game back after missing spring and summer workouts. And the frequency of having to avoid pass rushers during the game. He is a pocket passer, so I don't believe he is very graceful in his set nor has he been since he's been on campus. I do think he is athletic enough and capable of doing the things they are asking of him.

I can tell you this much he is in school this semester. Which would tell me that he did receive scholarship money this fall.
