    The university has always been of the mindset that it is unique.
    Here is an idea:

    Make it official that we are so unique, that we don’t want or need a mascot.
    Get Jim Nantz to make a sound bite about it:

    A tradition like no other.

    This would work if being mascot-less was in fact a UL tradition, but I don't think 2010 budget cuts constitute a tradition.
