GA parking at Cajun Field inside the gates on Saturday was a huge plus. It should remain that way until attendance is consistently in the 20Ks. The admin has also obviously put in work with the students for a crowd like that to turn out.
At the same time, I don’t see the benefit the university receives from the few people who go to the games pretending everything is perfect when it isn’t. Especially when some of the observations are common sense things that can be addressed before the stadium is built.
My Game Day Experience
-parked my RV in my reserved spot that I gladly paid for
-parked my cars in "B" lot & RV lot that I gladly paid for
-visited with my RV friends
-tailgated all day with friends & family while dining on pulled pork, boudin & beer(s)
-walked over to the Alumni tent and had a bowl of pastalaya & some beer(s)
-listened to the band for a while
-enjoyed the Cajun Walk
-entered the game with my tickets stored in Apple wallet (no issues)
-sat in my reserved seats that i gladly paid for
-enjoyed a couple more beers from the concession area - no long wait time
-met all the new people in our seating area - lots of new player parents & friends
-enjoyed the halftime show but still not sure about that cake
-watched the Cajuns beat the Demons
All in All - A Great Day!! Nothing to complain about
Seriously! They’ve taken baby steps and you’re touting them as if they were milestones. You also sound like Baldwin when it comes to the fans.
It is 100% on the University to do what is necessary to get fans to attend games. It starts on campus. They get a monster F in that category.
You talk about “we can’t put a bar in the north endzone, there’s a giant scoreboard”. It’s probably the smallest in the SBC. Also you absolutely could design in a bar. For example look at the Nashville Sounds stadium.
Parking passes should be consolidated to the paved parking areas. All grass lost should be paid per game ($10) at the gate. Then overflow to the free parking areas.
I’ll say it again! The casual fan isn’t coming to the games. Forget about them. Get 40% of the student body to the games. Do what you have to to fill the fenced in parking first! Make it appear to be an event, like the Hudspeth days.
It will take 10-15 graduating classes, to cultivate a new fan base from the current students. If we fail to do that, then we are done. Because our current fan base is mostly over 50, with a handful of mid 30’s thrown in there.
Who is to blame there? The fans? Come on man. Get real.
1. The university must get students to relate to Cajun athletics and have athletics tie them to the university.
2. Our coaches have to be good/great coaches and even better salesmen.
3. Win!
4. Make the game experience fun and painless. I mean like really fun and morphine like painless.
Honest question for those complaining about the complainers, if this is not the place for those who are frustrated to voice their opinions/thoughts/etc, then where exactly is that place? Social media? email? pen a letter?
This is the perfect place for that. Seems to me admins read this and it creates the most dialogue, so not sure why people get so upset about it. Yall are right, some people will never be happy but that does not mean they dont want what is best for our programs or the potential that they see. When we stop having people caring and complaining that is when we really have a problem.
