Not that anyone asked me, but you can add me to the list of Never Techers
Actually, there are many problems with Tech. We all know the unfortunate ways that Tech fans & administrators have insulted and snubbed UL, and all of the SBC, in sports. Most people here have no idea about many of their unpleasantries, but I would simply remind everyone of how hard Tech worked to keep us out of the Independence Bowl a few years back, despite the SBC-Independence Bowl MOU that supposedly guaranteed us the spot.
And I would remind you that one of the prime reasons the SBC decided not to re-admit any former members when C-USA began decomposing, was the animus from the conference members toward Tech, for all of their rudenesses.
Tech tries the same things in academics, and in politics. A few years back I was pitching a research idea to a faculty member -- a UL alum, mind you -- at LSU-HSC-Shreveport. After talking for awhile, the other guy finally brought up LSU. I politely explained that we were willing to work with anyone, but that sometimes our efforts at collaborating with LSU didn't work out as we had hoped.
He said, "Huh. We heard that you guys are in LSU's back pocket." My jaw didn't hit the floor, only my plate.
"Who said that?" I asked.
"That's what Tech always tells us."
With our recent successes in research and state funding, Tech is now teaming up with LSU to try and stop our political successes. Why? Are we taking anything from them?
No, we're just exposing their inadequacies.
Tech doesn't play nice with anyone. They create problems for the other state schools. Then remember the C-USA schools who couldn't wait to get away from them. (Remember Tech fans taunting UAB after they lost their football program for a few years? I assure you, the other C-USA schools did.)
Tech needs to go back to the beginning, re-design who they are, and re-think what their priorities are. Until they do, the nicest thing that could happen to them is that they roast in humble pie hell.
If anyone has any doubt UL’s R1 status isn’t an issue with LSUBR, they’re sadly mistaken.
And Tech and the rest of the ULS brethren, instead of endorsing UL’s efforts and joining the effort, or even put in their own work, run to BR asking big brother to do something about it.
It’s real, YK,YK.
