I don't think I started that thread but did make the comment along with plenty of others who also commented and agreed. All archive threads are now history with the software update.

That's not true, and that's not fair.

Many of us think the world of Des because we watched him play, we watched him coach, and we've seen his dedication to this place.

For an admittedly misguided group of us, those of us who have disordered priorities, loyalty is number one, and character is part of that.

Some of us who love Des, love him for who he is, and because he walks the walk.

At this point, it is all up to Coach Des, and what he does with the program. Make UL competitive for a Sun Belt Championship, win some tough games we have no business winning, bring the team back to the top 25, and the fans will Love him. If he fails to regain what Napier attained, then it's going to be a tough road, even though he may still be the great person.
I'm glad he is motivated to prove people wrong, he should be.

    1) The 'Belt last year was much stronger than what the previous 3 coaches faced in their debut seasons.

    2) The previous three didn't start here trying to adjust to the disruptions created by the portal and NIL.

    3) Michael not only lost talent to offers elsewhere, but he ran off some talent as well because the players didn't 'fit' with his scheme & philosophy. For me, that's something to look for in a strong coach: Are you willing to lose major talent your first year to put your plan in place? Bear Bryant lost a lot of talent from the Junction Boys, Paterno (yeah, I know, but for the sake of example overlook the scandals) his first year ran off a bunch of seniors because of their attitude. Others here know football history better than I, maybe they can offer similar stories.

But disregarding all of that, just how badly did Michael do compared to his predecessors?

    1st-year records
    Bustle: . . . .3-9, no bowl
Hudspeth: . 9-4 (1-4 after games & bowl games vacated) won NO Bowl 32-30 to SDSU
    Napier: . . . .7-7 lost Cure Bowl 41-24 to Tulane
    Des: . . . . . .7-7 lost Independence bowl 16-23 to P5-bound Houston
Pretty sure we played 13 games not 14. We entered the Independence Bowl 6-6 and left 6-7.

    2. Your second sentence is not intelligible . . .

    3. That there may have been supporters that would have agreed to put up additional money to keep Napier here for one more year doesn’t mean that such money would have been available in the next year or for any other coach.

    4. We were $5.6 million dollars in the red Napier’s last year and the fans certainly failed to show that they would attend in order to pay the load for a coach that costs that much, no matter the success . . . So, your $3mm dollar comment falls flat on its face . . .

    5. As for whether I would approve the proposed hire or not becomes meaningless when there are virtually none which would be acceptable to the CMD naysayers that would come here for what we could afford . . .

    6. Such a big swing and a miss, but not u usual for you . . .
First, my second sentence said that we were a much bigger commodity after Napier that we were drawing interest from coaches elsewhere and we could have investigated those routes so it is intelligible.

Second, are you saying that with our most successful run in school HISTORY, we were less attractive to an up an coming coach or a well known coach who needed another run?

We all know that we offered Napier close to $3million to stay but the offer from Florida was much higher so there is that and it doesn't fall on its face.

Also, you have no fricking idea what we could afford when we were willing to offer Napier MUCH more to stay so you are just fishing. Not a big swing and miss clown.

Some places have him listed as 7-7 because of his New Orleans Bowl win over Marshall

I did not say one thing you said I said.

You are having a difficult time with the facts.

Have you read any of the posts of Dr Fun? Obviously not.

You be you. It’s embarrassing, but go ahead and be you.

Cool. Thanks for clarifying! So how is Big Fish not considered loyal? Granted he didn't play here, but des didn't exactly play on (or lead) some of the best teams here. Coaches can either disloyalty leave and remain loved or overstay their welcome, are those the only two choices?

And we should! However, it will happen again, regardless of who is the HC.

    Just ask Alabama.
