. . . if he was willing to take a substantial cut in pay to become a head coach here, you may have found the only coach in the country that would consider that . . . I do remember when he was here, his wife and my wife (and maybe yours was out there also) holding baseball practice for some 12 year olds when the coaches would not do so . . . definitely a great guy and a great family . . . not sure it would have been a better hire than Des, however . . .

    We're going to find out.

I watched Des play. He was a beast. And he's a worker. And he's smart.

AND he's a great human being.

I think he'll take us to the next level. But if he doesn't, I'll still be proud and happy that he's our coach. We need a lot more people like him.

All I know is this: Desormeaux was the right hire minus any fanfare.

First, you wouldn't agree with the names anybody would throw out anyhow and plus, its not the fans job to do the searching hire. What we do know is that we better known commodity than before and we hired, as our HC, a coach who had no real years experience in being a coordinator or running a collegiate program.

That's the knock on the hire. And if you're telling me that 'that's all we could afford" after offering BN reportedly near $3 million you can kick rocks.

Probably, but at the same time, no short trumpet tune was played when he was hired.

Everybody loves des because of a hype video by a bearded Jesuit, could a hype video get people to change tune about marlin since stats did not

Billy was never a HC before he came here.

    1. Nobody says it’s the fan’s job but a fan should at least have somebody else in mind when they are going to appear here and challenge the hire . . . otherwise they are not much of a fan but more of a complainer . . .

    2. Your second sentence is not intelligible . . .

    3. That there may have been supporters that would have agreed to put up additional money to keep Napier here for one more year doesn’t mean that such money would have been available in the next year or for any other coach.

    4. We were $5.6 million dollars in the red Napier’s last year and the fans certainly failed to show that they would attend in order to pay the load for a coach that costs that much, no matter the success . . . So, your $3mm dollar comment falls flat on its face . . .

    5. As for whether I would approve the proposed hire or not becomes meaningless when there are virtually none which would be acceptable to the CMD naysayers that would come here for what we could afford . . .

    6. Such a big swing and a miss, but not u usual for you . . .

    Mark that down.

I think Michael Desormeaux can match his success.

I also believe there are dozens of Napier types out there .

That is a lot of starters. Several NFL talents and we are just supposed to pretend that those guys didn’t matter?

That doesn’t even count the injuries before the season. Last year was a “Medicine Season” and we still should have been 8-4 if not for a few poor decisions.
I still feel the sting from the ULM lost.
