Saints Release a couple of Vets

Saints release CB Bradley Roby and LB Jaylon Smit today. Both were expected to make the team from most people's viewpoint. Also, Saints traded Will Lutz to the Broncos for a 7th round draft choice.

Apparently, the Saints were trying to get a trade for Roby, but no takers. The Saints only have 5 picks in next year's draft, so Roby and Lutz were a way of picking up some extra picks, but Lutz had a handful of suitors, Roby did not have any. I am sure Roby will be picked up, but unfortunately for the Saints it won't help with draft capital.

Actually I just looked at the updated one and it had more. Saints get a lot of compensatory picks next year.

They have:

1 1st round pick
1 2nd round via broncos. This is for Payton I believe
2 4th rounders. 1 compensatory for Marcus Davenport and 1 for David Oneymata
1 5th rounder.
3 6th rounders there own, one via trade and one compensatory pick for kaden Ellis
1 7th rounder trade for will lutz.

A total of 9. But only 2 in the first 3 rounds.
