I hope we get lots of first downs. But I hope I never hear again. And that’s another the Louisiana FIRST DOWN. First time I heard a PA guy call a first down like that was in Monroe and it just says ULM to me every time I hear it.

I am with you... the first time I heard it was at a middle school game in Loreauville, and I thought it was awful even there.

We have several brands associated: Ragin' Cajuns, UL, University of Louisiana, Vermilion & White, and others.

I was a cheerleader, I certainly don't want to criticize the new coach. But the fight for 'University of Louisiana' began in 1980, and 'Louisiana' along with it. We fought hard for those brands.

On the other hand, I have noted repeatedly that we simply don't need to worry about it. Even on the old boards I argued that once the national media started calling us 'Louisiana' and 'UL,' it would be game over.

Well, we won that battle years ago, and every step we make forward just cements our identity further.

Which is why the current in-state stuff is pettiness that will probably never go away.* We should ignore it and focus on the great things that are happening, and the things we can easily improve.

*An interesting note however. My daughter went to summer camp in north Louisiana, one of her counselors goes to ULM... but she's a big UL fan. I like the fact that it shows we're making progress, but I would prefer that everyone be, as the Beach Boys advised, true to their school.

Far be it from me to disagree with you, Joe, but it began long before 1980. My Statistical Analysis senior project was an analysis of the changes in geographical distribution of students at the University over time to determine whether the evidence supported the claimed trend toward a statewide school rather than a commuter school, with the underlying question being whether the student distribution supported the academic progression of the University and helped solidify the evidence that the school name be changed from USL to UL. [It did.]

That was in the fall of 1973; and I am sure that the name change movement was around before then.

No, no trolley. That was a Nico and Mike T thing. Idk what time I'll be out there. Gonna see how it is on Saturday. Just left the neurologist and my boy is cleared but I don't wanna bring him out there if it's too hot. His body is still recovering
