Sources: After a weekend of conversations, there’s continued momentum toward the ACC adding Stanford, Cal and SMU. ACC officials are working on gathering the presidents/chancellors on a call, which is expected to take place at some point early this week.

. . . this is about as applicable to Louisiana as talking about LSU . . .

Gotta feel for Oregon State baseball. But FB drives the bus.

If SMU leaves the AAC, there is a good chance that they replace them with Texas State, which affects the SBC and us.

That is fairly obvious to most people.

Are you having a bad day?

I have been watching you gurou's here for years and virtually nothing posted has affected Louisiana . . . and so, if Texas St goes, tell me how that affects Louisiana . . . you have two if's and an assumption . . .

Fresno won the national championship from the MWC not too long ago. They'll be fine.

I don't think it is so much that football is driving the bus as much as Brand Power and TV Power. UCLA hasn't done diddly squat in football for a long time, but their brand is awesome and their market is one of the best.

    Ways it affects us:
    1. Lose a desired in-conference destination (San Marcos is beautiful)
    2. Lose a good baseball program
    3. Lose the only remaining school we have in Texas (might affect recruiting?)
    4. Not many options for replacing, would possibly be another Eastern school?

. . . that is a whole lot of thought put into a process that is two if's and an assumption away and to which we have absolutely no control over . . . but have at it . . .

That’s why, if we lose Texas State, the only logical replacement is Middle Tennessee or UTSA. Need to fit in the SB West’s footprint.

You know, kinda like Missouri fits in the SEC East…

Why would UTSA leave the AAC? We can do without MTSU or WKU from CUSA.

Also, why add another Texas school to the AAC? They already have UTSA for the San Antonio market, Rice for the Houston market and N Texas for the DFW market. The AAC is looking at only large market schools, although few of their members have any real presence in their markets. Using the AAC logic, MTSU would bring them the Nashville market, but they aren't in the west and not a very attractive school.

So, where does the AAC go to replace SMU? Lafayette is a bigger market than San Marcos and fits perfectly in the I-10 corridor - Tulane, UL, Rice, UTSA. Should UL apply or just stay where we are? The AAC is a better perceived conference and is the first conference to provide any school with an opportunity to move to a P5 conference, unless we don't have such ambitions.
