Thread: Martin Hall at it again.

  1. #1

Default Martin Hall at it again.

I got a call from Little Poppa today who is currently a member of a Greek organization on the UL campus. Let me preface this by saying, you all may remember a thread at the beginning of the summer, where Dr Maggard and Sam DeMuzio called in representatives from several different Greek and student organizations to discuss student involvement at football and what they need to do better. I do believe the Dean in charge of the Greek system Heidie Lindsey sat in on the meeting.

According to T-Poppa the student tailgate area at Cajun Field it is probably around 90% Greek. The vast majority of the tents set up are obviously Greek also. Well today Ms Lindsey and the Dean of students Margarita Perez announced that no freshman can go near any Greek organizations for next Saturdays game, because rush is the next week and there will be alcohol. That makes the student tailgate area off limits to freshmen. Genius I tell you.

Can you imagine being a freshman, making your first game, of your college career and you’re told you can’t go to the party? The tailgate being 90% greek will obviously be off limits. The first taste in that students mouth, that they are trying to capture into a fan, is a bad one. This is unbelievable.

It looks like the Athletics dept was trying to make forward steps all summer long and Martin hall just drug them back a few steps in one day.

I can understand the frustration from the perspective of being a fan who wants every butt possible in the stadium.

At the same time, Greek organizations nationwide with their rush stuff has come under scrutiny with scum trial lawyers waiting “patiently”.

That decision you described has to be based 100% on liability fears.

But it does suck, because who knows if those freshmen will show up for Home Game 2.

I didn’t read it as being a rush thing. It’s a freshman can’t go to the first TG of their college career thing. Tailgating is a university sponsored event not a frat party. My son too is a current Greek student and they did the rush stuff during the summer and pretty much know who they want.

My take from this is if BP’s son is correct are close to correct on the percentages where are the non Greeks do they hate parties, football and fun? How do you get more general students out. Greek organizations are a very small part of the entire student population. Looks like you lose them you are screwed.

These folks ____ up everything and they wonder why less than 8k fans went to the last home game. A renovated stadium will never fix these issues.

The non Greeks go to BR. It’s why UL’s Greek organizations need to double in size.

I know kids personally who’s family ran the QB club for years, another who’s daddy played and his last name is on a building, and others who all grew up at Cajun field and the Tigue but went to LSU solely because of the Greek life here is intentionally being destroyed.

Started not to post this, but they’ll eventually hear of this. Another way for USL to run off fans.

Our new fans come from the student body. These people need to get off their woke-ass horse and fix this.
