Thread: Martin Hall at it again.

I was a recent grad during the Hud years and the only time I saw the most casual of my Cajun friends at CF was when student tailgating was an absolute party scene. Martin Hall needs to take a page out of our former HFBC, "scared money don't make money." Liability issues or not, the best we can do is educate out Greeks about the dangers of alcohol poisoning & hazing and trust them to police themselves.

Alcohol at university events is a huge liability. One under-21 kid sneaks one drink at a Greek party, gets killed or kills somebody, it will make national news and the whole university will be pulled into it.

Don't get mad at UL. We didn't create this problem.
They have officers checking the crowd and giving MPIs at every tailgate in the state of Louisiana. No one is saying let a bunch of 18 year olds drink in public. Just let them in the party.

On a side note in schools that are located in dry counties where a kid can’t buy a natural lite illegal drugs run rampant.

CM hazing today is nonexistent if you compare it to years past. The things they call hazing today makes them look like Boy Scouts compared to the 70s 80s and 90s.

Actually it’s impossible to keep everyone totally sober, but surely they can have reached some understanding with the Greek community to be protective of their minor members and especially hazing and binge drinking as part of that.
Agree. No hazing does not mean no fun

I used to go watch practice at least three days a week during the first 6 Bustle years.

There was never a question of who could go, and, who couldn't.

TW did stop me from taking pictures of drills once. He did it with just a stern look.

    I got the message.

They sell alcohol at athletic events, and why at a Greek party? What about any student at any party or anywhere on campus? Why is only Greeks the liability?

I promise you there will still be freshmen and under age drinking going on by non freshmen. Majority of college kids are under 21. They get in bars and still drink.
Liability wise I see why they have to at least say that to protect the university.

Freshmen get to Cajun Field!!! Geaux Cajuns!
Have a great time! Be safe!

Easiest one to control. That’s why the houses are on campus. Leverage. Worst thing that ever happened to the Greeks, gave up autonomy.

That’s true, but even off campus the university holds a big stick. They can suspend, or revoke the individual Greek organization they find in non compliance of their rules.

They should treat the Greeks like a business association. It would be far better to form a symbiotic relationship with all the Greek leaders. You’re far more likely to not offend your business associates.

They gonna make current members of the Greek organizations wear wrist bands. Anyone without will not be allowed in the each Greek organizations spot. I assume they’ll have wristbands for dates and I would think ones school ID may say what year you started because I don’t think they get a new one every year like the old days.

The sad thing is if you want to do something near the stadium today the university has control and tells you the how, when, and where. GDI and all. IMO they should have bulldozed the old McNaspy and built the new cajun field on campus. Kids with rent house within a mile radius could throw big pre game parties and not have to answer to the university. I thin our student participation would be much greater if the stadium was built on the main campus.

Ah, no we don’t need a stadium near the classrooms. Tulane stadium sucks. But it’s good for students to participate. There’s better ways to get students involved. We seem to have lost our way, or got rid of institutional knowledge.
