I wasn't in a fraternity but I would have been banned from the university if these rules were in place back then. Good thing social media was just starting out and not something all evidence was posted to.
Moving them across the street was one of the things that killed tailgating and students turnout and they still don't get it. You can't have your future fanbase banished to purgatory and expect them to stay engaged. Tailgating is sporadically spread all over the place killing the atmosphere. If your gonna open up Tigue then the stage needs to the focal point and all the spots need to be pulled in closer. West side of the Stadium needs to mirror Reinhart Drive. Cox needs to be torn down and students need to be right there in front of the IPC. That's how you bring back tailgating

New USL. Same as the old USL
USL wasn't nearly this ____ up.

At least you had a good game day atmosphere, fan participation, Greeks very much on board, decent teams, decent schedules, pep rallies back in the day at The Keg, a real Homecoming parade that people would get excited about, a packed Blackham Coliseum in the early 70's with Shipley and Lamar and company, Roy Henry in the late 70's and plenty of other great USL memories.

Now we don't even have an identity state wide as most still don't know what to call this place, we can't come up with a mascot, we can't seem to raise money in a timely manner and yet we think we're supposed to be LSU or "That school across the Basin" like many refer to it as. That's a pipe dream but delusion prevails as always.

So yeah, a lot of us older people will take the old USL days as opposed to this administrative cluster ____ that we have today.

I do believe the Dean in charge of the Greek system Heidie Lindsey sat in on the meeting.

According to T-Poppa the student tailgate area at Cajun Field it is probably around 90% Greek. The vast majority of the tents set up are obviously Greek also. Well today Ms Lindsey and the Dean of students Margarita Perez announced that no freshman can go near any Greek organizations for next Saturdays game, because rush is the next week and there will be alcohol. That makes the student tailgate area off limits to freshmen. Genius I tell you.

Can you imagine being a freshman, making your first game, of your college career and you’re told you can’t go to the party? The tailgate being 90% greek will obviously be off limits. The first taste in that students mouth, that they are trying to capture into a fan, is a bad one. This is unbelievable.

It looks like the Athletics dept was trying to make forward steps all summer long and Martin hall just drug them back a few steps in one day.

Alcohol at university events is a huge liability. One under-21 kid sneaks one drink at a Greek party, gets killed or kills somebody, it will make national news and the whole university will be pulled into it.

Don't get mad at UL. We didn't create this problem.

    This was my first reply.

HOWEVER, how many other universities are following this same “caution”?

I wonder if the Greek community were to commit to and abide by a 100 percent no hazing policy if there would be less of an issue. Of course charity work would be the exception.

    . . . Fun is right . . . MADD and social media have ruined football . . .

Go take a walk through fraternity row in Knoxville or Tuscaloosa on a Saturday morning. It’s a frickin zoo. Then that zoo parades into Neyland or BDS. We are literally giving our fan base an abortion. Killing the baby before it breathes its first breath on its own. Back the fk off and let these kids have fun. Maybe then 5 years down the line you won’t have to be hemorrhaging the same old fan base you’ve been gutting for 40 years.

. . . we had a poker game at my woodworking partner’s house . . . I brought a 6 pk of Budweiser longnecks . . . towards the end of the night I noticed I had two leftover so I walked to his patio to put them in his fridge for tomorrow . . . his 18 year old Louisiana freshman sitting on the patio took them and asked if they were for him . . . I said surely take one if you would like it . . . the smile on his face was priceless . . . we need to get off the students azzzzzes if we want them to participate and become lifelong supporters . . .

Mike all I know is that Alabama sororities have been getting millions of free advertising tv eyes as the 17 women Greek organizations take thousands of young women in just prior to kickoff of Alabama football.

Actually it’s impossible to keep everyone totally sober, but surely they can have reached some understanding with the Greek community to be protective of their minor members and especially hazing and binge drinking as part of that.
