Drinking age is 21, what does being a freshman have to do with anything?
Sophomore and some juniors aren’t 21 either so what does being a freshman have to do with it? Will the freshman be 21 by the second home game when they are invited? It’s dumb. Maybe the university could identify as a pharmaceutical company then they would have zero liability
I could write a 10 page research paper on this topic and how UL since 2014 has tried to police the Greek system and it has failed MISERABLY. I was at UL from 2014-2018. It truly was the start of the decline of Greek Life and student participation in general for football games.
Social Media caught up with Greek life and everyone filming everything really took a toll on the fraternities and since 2014 there have been four Greek organizations that have been kicked off and I believe almost everyone has been suspended once or twice in some instances. Throw that in with the University struggling to understand how Greek Life was the only thing that drove students to tailgate in masses. Students who are not in Greek Life will go and set up tents and tailgate as well, but it is not the same when you can't bring out 8 different organizations that would get around 50+ members to come to these tents every time and then that in turn would bring 150+ sorority girls out as well because the men bring the alcohol that these women would be drinking.
But when you limit Greek participation at tailgates then it isn't even remotely the same. Anybody who tries to disagree with this has not been near student tailgating from 2014-2023. Look at the student section crowds of UL in the 90's and early 2000's. Hell even as recently as 2014. Greek Life was the driving force that made tailgates as fun as they are.
It is an important point that I am not bashing those outside of Greek organizations, but it's so clear that if you try to limit or police the Greeks then it isn't even remotely the same type of rowdy/fun crowd.
Throw in that they were harassing the students last year nobody can really be shocked that student and Greek Life participation at football games is at it's lowest ever on this campus since all these organizations were formed other than the anomaly that was Billy Napier's time here. I have said my peace.
I forgot who mentioned that when they had that meeting with Dr. Maggard, Administration people, the student leaders, and the Greek leaders the Greek leaders could not tell them what the problem was because of fear of retribution.
It is so clear that the people making these decisions never actually tailgated the proper way in college so they try to force new and improved rules in the name of safety for the UL Student Body at these tailgates, which in turn kills it.
It has positives I guess. Keeps everyone safe, but no fun whatsoever. Give and take according to them at the expense at attendance for students
