Yep we reeled off 5 straight against Memphis, southern miss, Tulane, Arkansas st and northern Illinois going into that game. The year before we were 2-9. Even as a youngster I remember how electric Lafayette was for USL football. That whole season was my best Cajun field memory.
Thanks for the correction. I also have a great Jake radio memory with Jake beating Tulane in the Super Dome on a late or last possession touchdown. I was on hurricane catastrophe duty in Atlanta. Maybe Tulane was still on WWL megaphone radio for me to catch it. That made my whole month in Atlanta tolerable.
My most memorable wins (I was at all of these):
1. USL beating Texas A&M. Stunned the college football world.
2. UL's 1st bowl game vs San Diego State. 50,000+ and a walk off field goal to win.
3. UL's win vs Iowa State. Put UL football on the map and a first Top 25 ranking.
4. UL's win vs Kansas State. A Big 12 win on another last second FG.
5. UL's win over Tulane in the Superdome with Jake's late TD. Helped change perception of UL in state. Best pre-game and post-game party ever in Superdome.
To add to my list, one Augie game not mentioned was a huge home win over U of Cincinnati...crowd was electric, big time win
Best road victory I attended was when we defeated Tulane for the first time in 1998. Brian Mitchell put on a show in the SuperDome that night. Second best was when Jerry Babb led a comeback victory over the Houston Cougars in 2006. It may seem strange to put a ULM game on the list but Dez and Fenroy led an offense that put up over 700 yards at Monroe in 2008. I laughed when the ULM coach said he wished they wished for a rematch as their mistakes cost ULM the game.
Correct, it was Harold Porter who caught the long TD pass in our first victory of 1974. I even remember Coach Augie T. giving credit to OC Larry Zeno for calling the play. A little more history from that time. Pollard was the returning starting QB going into 1975. A guy named Roy Henry transferred from Norte Dame that year. Not long into 1975, Henry became the starter
