Most overall yards for a spell, but Jerry Rice refused to retire so Brian is 2nd in all-time yardage.

Jerry Rice "refused to retire" because he is the ultimate competitor, like Brady and Jordan. He could still turn 22 year old DB's heads at the age of 42.

No return specialist has made the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Eric Metcalf, Billy Johnson, Devin Hester, Dante Hall, Brian Mitchell....all great kick return men for the longevity of their careers, none in the HOF.

Brian Mitchell is 2nd on the NFL's list of all-purpose yards with 23,330 yards behind only Jerry Rice's 24,546. Mitchell is only 216 behind Rice despite playing 80 games less than Rice. Mitchell holds or shares 22 NFL records. In his NFL career, he recovered 20 fumbles, scored 29 touchdowns (four kickoff returns, nine punt returns, 12 rushing, and four receiving), and threw for a touchdown pass. He also led the league in combined yards every season from 1994 through 1996 and again in 1998. He is one of only two players to lead the league in that statistical category at least four times. The other is Hall of Famer Jim Brown, who did it five times. Why isn't he in the Hall of Fame?

Jay why don’t they just put Brian Mitchell in the hall of fame. In my best Paul from Breaux bridge voice.

It’s a crying shame, but there’s still hope. The Jets got one in this year because he was part of a great group.

Not the year he played just to get back past Brian.

Fortunatly for JR he only needed a couple hundred yards.

He tried to make the Bronco's team the next season, so evidently he didn't play his final season "just to get back past Brian". He retired after Shanahan told him he'd only be the Broncos' #4 or 5 receiver.

Again, there is not a single return specialist in the NFL Hall of Fame. Not saying there shouldn't be one, but there isn't.

The only kicking specialists in the HOF are Stenerud, Andersen and Guy.

Devin Hester made the All 2000s and All 2010s HOF team, was a three time first team All Pro, and has 19 Return TDs to Mitchell's 13 (despite playing 67 less games). He's probably not sniffing the HOF any time soon either.
