Thread: Marlin Contract Extension - FOUR MORE YEARS!

I'm gonna make some people mad here.

I have no problem with this extension as long as the assistants are retained.

I like the fact that we will be revisiting this contract at a time where we will have completed the stadium project.

There is a time and a place for everything. Now may not be the time to rock the boat.

    We did lose an assistant.

The extension was earned. No one is questioning that, it’s the length and buyout.

Removing the non-D1 games next season we will end up with 15-17 wins. That’s his history, replacing Brown will be next to impossible.

Then we will be in year 1 of the extension coming off of a poor season. With a coach who is as exciting as 2 snails fornicating.

We are running a deficit in athletics. Basketball could be a huge money maker for the program.

Basketball isn’t dead here, the support for Marlin is. Increase attendance to 4500 per game. Dominate the SBC and win the tournament 3 of 5 years.

It’s all right there in front of us.

obviously we will know the answer in 3 years.
We may not know that at that time either. Look at how fondly many remember things that were longer ago

I don't dismiss your view entirely that someone but not everyone would indeed take the opportunity to
coach at UL. There will always be people who are willing to take a position to build a resume along a career path. But that doesn't mean there would not be some collateral damage to this program's reputation.

Saying what is obvious to me doesn't mean I support all aspects of the contract, specifically the length and buyout, I do not. But let's not conflate the point that it was reasonable to extend Coach Marlin, with this idea that everyone is happy with the results.
T, I agree that it’s a fraternity with coaches. The only thing I have witnessed in the many decades of college basketball is nothing is sacred to any of them including Mr. Clean Coach K. He just hasn’t been caught like almost everyone of his fellow HOF coaches. So fraternity be damned, if they had let Bob go for anything short of cause they wouldn’t have been waiting long for dozens of quality applicants. And if we had big bucks even more would apply.

With regards to integrity we know the only reason Lil Willie got fired was the evidence finally got released along with the other sins at LSU. Auburn kept Pearl in spite of everything. They’re also giving what’s his name from Ole Miss via Liberty another chance.

Then there’s conference realignment. Zero integrity for tradition or fans. It’s a race for the Benjamins. Not saying they should have fired him but they are happy with Bob plain and simple, as are certain money hanger ons who love chumming with Bob.

That’s my view right or wrong. It’s all opinion regardless of what side is chosen. Just seems Benjamin always wins.

The college coaching fraternity is strong. Once you’re in the club, they may trash each other on the recruiting trail, but rarely in public. Even Bob Huggins didn’t get dragged by the fraternity a few weeks back. WW is now getting the public rehab treatment. Huggins will likely too some day. Rick Pitino, dude has 9 lives.

Heck, Keith Richard has survived so far almost 40 years without leaving the state. Figure that dinosaur out. Nice guy, you bet. A made man.

The budget situation likely prevents him being replaced. Donovan Kates moved on due to a family situation by the way. It appears that Neil Hardin will move from the scouting director position (a strength of his, we were generally well prepared for opponents last season) he had last season back to one of the 3 assistants allowed. Now our website still shows him as a Scouting Director but I think he will basically serve as a regular assistant coach this coming year. I think this is a loss to the program as the setup they had last season was very effective. The remainder of the staff remains in place.

The current coach at Ole Miss (Chris Beard) was at Texas previously. Prior to that he was at Texas Tech. He was also at Little Rock the year they won the league. I am not sure if anyone from Liberty has moved on to a better role in recent years.

Settle in for 4 more years of Bobby Ball and hope he can produce, or tune out (which most Cajun fans have done).
    FACTS!

. . . the operative part of Zep’s post is purely opinion . . . he does provide some facts which are presented in a slanted fashion as support of his opinion . . .
