That wasn't going to happen coming off a NCAA appearance. From a brand standpoint, you simply can't extend a coach for 1 year. That's not rational unless a coach has decided to retire after the 1 year. The length of the extension and the buyout are questionable, but extending a coach just 1 year coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance is uncommon in college athletics.
Yes, the perception of the program amongst the administration/coaching fraternitiy (fraternity is correct word for that profession) would have lessened without an extension beyond 1 year.
Lamar went to the Dance 4 out of 5 years during that span which included a Sweet 16 run, and we were still above .500 against McNeese and UNO. That's like me claiming that Marlin has lost to ULM 8 times even though we have still dominated the series during his time here.
More like a dead end job with zero movement. My other take is UL has nothing lose with other coaces thinking less of the program because we not hiring, who cares what the coaching profession thinks. WE NOT HIRING.
From what I understand, Coach Perrin did have other good opportunities become available to him. He chose to stay with some of the reasons for doing so being personal.
