Marlin Contract Extension - FOUR MORE YEARS!

The Bandwagon fans haven't forced the AD to do anything yet.

No AD in America would have fired the coach after last season. It would hurt the reputation of the school in the AD/coaching fraternity. You would have had to pay his salary completely and that of new coach as well. I am not sure that was even allowed by the previous contract. If the guy is going to be there for one more year, having some type of extension is required for recruiting purposes. It is simply unrealistic to think some type of extension was not forthcoming. Dr. Maggard has been saying it was coming for months. Now you may be disappointed in the fact the extension is 3 year’s meaning Coach Marlin is likely to be here 4 more years assuming some level of success. I wonder if a 2 year extension would be better accepted by some in fan base.

A 2 year extension would’ve been more understandable than 4 more years. Yes.

But I did hear a rumor that the contract involves a pay cut to the base salary. We shall see very soon.

In 13 seasons, we've finished outside the Top 6 only 3 times.
We've finished in the Top 4, 8 out of 13 seasons.

Wasn't Bob supposedly retiring 2 or so years ago? Also of note, I understand he won conference so he gets 1 year extension but why 3? What is his base salary now?

He had an automatic extension due to winning the conference tournament. Part of previous contract. Dr. Maggard had indicated all along an extension would come with post season play achieved.

Yep. Automatic extension if the team wins the conference tournament. The good ole boy network needs to GEAUX.

That is technically correct. However it is unrealistic to think that would happen. Teams that win conference tournaments are teams that are improving their play as the season winds down. That provision is standard for most coaches in the country. It is not unique to us.

Over the last decade we've averaged over 20 wins per season. While that isn't good enough for some of you (and I'm sure you'll try to detract from those numbers), I can guarantee there are HUNDREDS of D-1 programs that wish they had that kind of success.

Quit acting like the program sucks.

2 things can be true at the same time. Winning an average of 20 games per season in a decade indicates you do not suck. I guess it depends on your definition of "suck" To me, it would be a 0.500 record or less. Of course I am an engineer and go by numbers. On the other hand, the results may not be the level of excellence some set their standards by or what they believe is achievable. They may think a championship needs to be attained 50 percent of the time.
