BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The House and Senate are planning a vote
Tuesday afternoon to select the state's new legislative auditor.
The auditor leads the office that reviews the financial books of
state and local government agencies.
A panel of lawmakers recommended Daryl Purpera - who has been
working as the interim auditor since Steve Theriot retired in
November - for the job permanently.
The committee of House and Senate members interviewed five
applicants for the job before recommending Purpera, who has worked
in the auditor's office for 26 years.
House Speaker Jim Tucker says he hasn't heard of any objections
from lawmakers in choosing Purpera as the new auditor.
