Thread: Academic news from this morning

  1. Default Re: Academic news from this morning

As reported in the NSF listings - which is a yes. UL is in the Top 100 Public Universities - and without a Med School. UL came in just over $205M this past year - and, there are more big things happening.

Something needs to break State’s stranglehold on the medical schools.

ULM is perfectly capable of converting the medical school renting space into the ULM medical school and health complex.

    Nicholls: . . . . . . . . . . . .$551K
    McNeese: . . . . . . . . . . $664K

    LSU-HSC-S: . . . . . $21M
    Tech: . . . . . . . . . . . $27M
    LSU-HSC-NO: . . . .$44M
LSU (LSU-BR, Pennington, LSU Ag, Vet School, Law School):
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $296M

As we have noted, LSU has 3 times our faculty, 4 times our funding, and 5 times our doctoral programs. So here's my question: If we subtract Pennington, LSU Ag, LSU Vet, & LSU Law; does LSU-BR by itself pull in less than $200M??

Has UL passed LSU in research funding?

Around $250M is what I read last.

I will be excited to see the health science campus once it opens. I also heard through the grapevine that the gym is going to be reopening. I hope that is true. I will be able to walk there.

But we miss a lot in the local area because high school guidance counselors don't want their best and brightest to just attend the "local university."

And that’s the fun part. The incredible hard work by our researchers and the way they work collaboratively with other institutions have positioned UL for an exciting future in research. I look forward to future announcements.
Interestingly, a few years ago, UL’s research was double that if all of the rest of the UL system. Latest numbers, 4X. That is astounding. Not the same school I attended.

Now we just need an drive for a $1B endowment and we could completely change the narrative.

So, why is UL not the Flagship of the UL System? How can LSU be the Flagship of the UL System and LSU System? Is LSU also the Flagship of the Southern University System? If not, the UL System should claim autonomy and name UL its Flagship university.

Don’t like flagship. Says you’ve reached your goal. Our goals are still way out there. Gotta keep working.
