The 2010 Tornado season is still off to a very slow start when compared to the average. Right now the count is less than 1/2 of the 10 year average, and less than 1/3 of the average since 2005. Across the nation only 82 tornadoes have been reported since January 1.
So far only 5 tornado reports have been received for the month of April. Four of those were in Missouri Sunday, and one reported in Illinois yesterday. The storm track that could produce any severe weather, including tornadoes will remain far to the north today affecting parts of the Great Lakes Region.
Some storms are possible with a cold front advancing toward the area late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Right now it appears any severe weather will remain to the north of Acadiana. Heavy downpours are possible with some of these storms, but rainfall totals should remain below flood guidance because the front is expected to progress across the region quickly. Cooler, drier air returns Thursday with a pleasant weekend ahead.
