I’m hearing a lot about Antoine Baylis. Is he more an edge rusher at 270lbs or will he be in the middle with sonny till Marcus comes back.
They love this DL unit. The DT's that I think you will see mostly are familiar names. The rotation that I see is on the edges with Jordan Lawson, Nigel McGriff, Cam Whitfield and Tyler Guidry and in the middle with some names that the coaches are really high on, like Sonny Hazzard, Marcus Wiser, Mason Narcisse and Kadarius Miller. Some of these guys are interchangeable as well, meaning that they can line up inside or outside depending on the defensive alignment. Bayless is one of those guys, he is capable of playing the edge and/or lining up in the middle as well.
I think on the defense, even though we lost some really good players over the course of the last 2 years, that this is the strength of this defense. I think we are super talented, but more importantly deep, specifically if Marcus Wiser comes back, which I think will be in week 4.
Love watching me some Sonny"Meatball" Hazzard...
Based on the press conferences we had (Coaches and players, even Ben Wooldridge) said that Bayless made one of the most incredible interceptions in practice that they have ever seen from a DL. Maybe we could line him up as a WR at 6'2" 285 lbs, not sure many DB's would want to cover that cat.
I know many of us complain about how our compadres are using the transfer portal and we are not. I think the coaches are very selective when it comes to the portal. Antoine Bayless is a kid that we got through the portal, but not from a big time school, but from D2 Southwest Baptist University. He was somewhat of an unknown and I know many people overlooked him because of where he played, but I would compare him to Michael Jefferson, who we got from FCS Alabama State. Sometimes the problems of another program are not worth it when they come to your school. I can give you a list of names that were problems at big time schools and came to G5 schools and either ended up not playing or not living up to the hype.
We have a number of guys who transferred in from smaller schools who are going to play significant minutes for UL this year, Glenn Brown (Southern), Antoine Bayless Southwest Baptist), and Keyon Martin (Youngstown State) are among some of those.
. . . seeing the light . . . better than turning out the light . . . let the light shine in and adopt the bright points of light . . . sometimes things are not exactly how they are seen, especially if one does not see the light . . . seeing the light . . .
So the words that the defensive line could be a strength could very well ring true?
I, for one, am geeked about Baylis.
