Saints 3rd string QB Jake Haener is the reason Ben Wooldridge is here at Louisiana.

How close was the competition between them? They’re one year apart. Ben went directly to Fresno and Haener was a Washington transfer with a year waiting period. Both had about the same game experience, but Haemer had an extra year of overall college experience.

Not sure how close it was, but apparently the coaching staff at Fresno went with Haener. I'm glad they did...

Yea, during the Draft they were talking about Haener being very, very good. Fresno of course has a well known program and I'm looking forward to B Dub taking over the Swamp on the comeback, Revenge Tour.

So theres the connection b/t the Black and Gold and the Cajuns this year.

I know you're not supposed to put too much stock in preseason games, but I liked what I saw offensively AND defensively. AK looked great (too bad we'll be w/o him a few games). Juwan Johnson is going to have a HUGE year! Now it's time for the Cajuns to get started. Let's do this!!!

KC has arguably the best QB in the NFL, but their backup is a guy who is a journeyman in the NFL, but he has started before, so, their is that. The Saints have been lucky to have names like, Teddy Bridgewater and Jamies Winston and Andy Dalton as backups who can win games when called to do so, most teams don't have that. Look at the list of backups in the NFL right now, there is a mix of journeymen, no names and then really young quality college guys, who we have no idea what they will be or won't be.
I think there in lies the strategy. Do you want a top 15 qb and a back up not in the top 50, then you live with a lot of risk. Whereas if both your 1 and 2 are in the 25 to 40 range, you don't drop off that much if a switch is needed. And you can put that cap money to many other resources. Even better if league were to implement a rule that the starter had to rest for a certain amount of series or quarters you would be golden and the team spending the big bucks on the top flight guy struggles.

Takeaways from New Orleans v L.A. Chargers:

    1. Victory
    2. N.O. - 14 penalties
    3. Bolts - 4 penalties
    4. Saints Defense has 3 takeaways.
    5. Kendre Miller (25) draws first blood.
    6. Kendre Miller says he's better than A.K. and will be Saints No.1 back.... Lay off the hard stuff Kendre.
    7. Its very nice to see the number 25 again in the backfield for the Black and Gold.
    8. If New Orleans is penalized like this, this season we are going 0-17.
    9. Our new kicker Grupe or however you spell it, will be nicknamed Grouper from now on because he's the size of a Grouper I caught in the late 90's.
    10. The Cajun Connection, QB Haenar who battled B Dub for start at Fresno State may be a future Saints QB, his stock is solidly rising (trade value).

Thats simply off the top of the head. There's much more to yesterday than that.

9-8 or 8-9 season. If health stays with the Saints, maybe a winning season.

Glad to see some Bolts fans (and Saints fans) in So-Fi yesterday due to the Apocalypse outside.
