Thread: SBC delivering for ESPN...

    Default SBC delivering for ESPN...

    https://www.dnronline.com/sun_belt_e...92869648e.html

SBC commissioner Keith Gill was the only Group of Five conference head to boast about his league’s total viewership from last season at this month’s media days. According to Gill, 35 million people watched Sun Belt football in 2022, doubling the previous season and continuing a series of exponential increases the past three years.

Perhaps most interesting, by announcing the 35 million total, Gill tipped his hand that the league averages more than 100,000 viewers per game on the streaming ESPN+ platform....

Based on games with complete ratings data, both the AAC and Sun Belt averaged about 700,000 viewers on linear TV, comparable or better than leagues such as the NHL, MLS and WNBA....

An ESPN executive, who demanded anonymity to even discuss the most basic aspects of these media deals, confirmed the network is quite happy with how its relationship with the Sun Belt is developing
This is the reason why our championship game will flex between ESPN and ABC.

Great news for the SBC. Kinda funny the PAC<12 was going for the Apple deal.

WNBA…needs to go to the OCHO weekend on the mothership.

Averaging the same amount as AAC on linear TV. Guess our TV deals should be equalizing sooner than later.

I'd bet that the more established brands of the SBC in the footprint of SEC territory get as many eyes on games as less popular "big market" AAC teams.

They already are. The last group of schools added to the AAC will be getting roughly the same revenue as SBC schools. Only the legacy AAC members are getting the larger share, and that will end once they negotiate the next deal.

This is also the reason why schools like Tulane, Memphis, SMU, Rice and South Florida will take ANY offer from the PAC4 if they get one.

Will they increase our cut then? Will they stop talking about other conferences during our games?

It might sound good on the surface, but I think that would really hurt all none football sports. They really need to be careful what they wish for.

This mess is going to crush practically every sport that isn't football or men's basketball.

They will probably increase our fans espn+ subscription price, thus taking more $ away from rcaf

There was some talk on Full Ride about the PAC 4 circumstance. They suggested that possibly there will possibly be just football conferences and Olympic sports playing other conferences. We currently have the SBC sponsoring some sports that include teams from some P5 and G5 conferences.

The only problem is all the schools mentioned are in conferences that require football to be played in the conference. Then there’s no guarantee that they get the same money from tv networks in the current situation.
