Future Conference Breakdown (What we know now)

Returning to SBC alignment conversation, just looking at map of SE United States,
W. Kentucky and Mid Tenn fill a gap in the SBC footprint. The SBC was about to surpass CUSA when they bolted but I'd be willing to let bygones be bygones with them if their entry brought more $$$ to the conference. And its also another way to let Latech rot in CUSA.

First of all, it’s only $16 million with 1yr notice.

Second, the MWC tv deal is not great. It’s only $4 million/yr per school. If the PAC 4 could convince those top MWC and AAC schools to join, the PAC could probably triple that amount. Add in the increased CFP payout they’d receive by securing their spot as the 5th best conference, and that $16 million isn’t that big of a number anymore.

This is not a great conference, but it is a hell of a lot better than the conferences these schools currently find themselves in.

But we are now under 1 year until July 1, 2024 when the Pac# needs to fill spots for the schools leaving. The notice that the likes of SDSU, Boise, etc would need to give is less than 11 months notice, hence the much higher exit fee.

Right, but they wouldn't be joining until 2025, so they have almost a year to announce and only have to pay the 16 mill. This would be for the MWC schools only.

The AAC schools won't have any large fee like that to pay, and the PAC only need to get 2 more for next season to keep the autobids. So, if they decide to rebuild the PAC, you'll see 2 or 3 invites go out soon for AAC schools. MWC invites would go out next spring probably.

The only way I’m gonna let WKU, and, or Middle in is if we lose TxSt. Additionally I’d put a decade long withdrawal fee three times the combined ten year NCAA minimum revenue for basketball. That’s very likely to go way down if the P5 withdraw from the NCAA tournament.

So just thinking out loud, what if the AAC decided to go 24 teams and had 4, 6 team divisions:

AAC West:
Washington State
Oregon State
Boise State
Cal
Stanford
SDSU

AAC EAST
Temple
Navy
ECU
Charlotte
USF
FAU

AAC-SOUTHEAST
UAB
Tulane
Memphis
USM--Add them because you would not have a Miss team at this point
UL--Add them because that would only give you 2 La Teams
USA or Troy--Thought would be USA because they are a bigger market over Troy with athletics being fairly even.

Tulsa
UNT
SMU
RICE
UTSA
Texas State/UTEP or NMSU--I think Texas State because of the market and all three are questionable at best athletically, but Texas State gives you the area and a built in rival for UTSA.

24 Team G5 conference that would be perfectly built by regions. The only thing you would have to decide is how would the conference football championship be divided. For instance lets say, Oregon State wins the west, ECU wins the East, UL wins the Southeast (I had to do that because its, UL) and SMU wins the Southwest. How would you decide who plays in the Conference Championship game. I guess you could say that the East and SouthEast would be technically on one side and the West and SW would be on the other. You would have some sort of tiebreaker between the East and SE and West and SW.

I actually like this conference makeup, personally.

So, the 4 divisions would be minipods, meaning those 6 teams would always play each other in football every year (that is 5 conference games), then you would play 3 teams from your rival pod, that would be the SE/East and SW/West. That would make up your 8 conference games.

What I like about it is that USM, USA would be no change for us, Tulane would be a 2 hour drive. Memphis would be an upgrade to Arkansas State, because 1 they are better and 2 we end up flying and staying in Memphis anyway when we go to stAte anyway. So, our games every year would be guaranteed USA, UAB, USM, Tulane and Memphis not bad. Then our other 3 games would be between Temple, ECU, FAU, Navy, Charlotte and USF.

The West/SW would be better right now, because of OSU, Cal, Stanford and Wash State, not to mention SDSU and Boise in the West, but SMU and UTSA would be pretty good in the SW.

The East and SE would have a pretty good Tulane team, what we think is an up and coming USA and USM teams, UL, ECU, Navy and USF have some pretty good recent histories.

Thinking out loud is good. Sometimes, it catches on. Not sure how the money will be affected - I'm sure WSU, OSU, CAL and Stanford won't be happy, but they'll save on travel.
