My personal experience is there is more than a handful of folks who are tailgating but not going to the games. So I'd hate to simply give these folks parking just to go tailgate.

At least if they are buying tickets, you are getting (even faux) butts in the stands.
Congratulations you just killed the RCAF. Many members of the RCAF lower levels of 500 and less are members just to be able to do things like buy tailgate spots and or parking passes for Cajun Field. You give free access to that with just a ticket in hand there is no longer that incentive to join the RCAF. Membership would dwindle down over night.

This is the wrong approach. When we had our best attendance it was during the years the tailgate area was packed with people "just going to tailgate". I never had an extra ticket go unused during those years , gave away all 5 every game and usually ahd to hunt down more. Ever since we chased off the "just tailgate crowd" i couldnt give away tickets, would let me buddy use them to get abck in after he went smoke cigarettes. You have to get them in the gate if you want a chance to get them in the stadium. Who cares if people stay outside or go home, if we get back to 25k a game why does it matter? what we are doing is not working. Trying to force people isnt working, hasnt worked since we started trying it.

If the lot would be open to general parking with a fee, what would be the principal?

Dude, you asked a question and I, like several others, provided you with one.

Looking back in the thread, I think you are of the opinion that NO parking should be free inside of Cajun Field: a minimum RCAF donation, a minimum of $10 per game for parking, and (presumably) a game ticket should be required.

But contrary to what I think your stance is, just look at what your namesake seems to be proposing (just after your post): there should be no charge for parking; "....trying to force people" isn't working.

So how much would you charge? I see you asking the question but never offering up a solution.

Just curious: How much of the parking fees collected for basketball, baseball, and softball as well as the personal seat donations and annual fund contributions go to the overall RCAF?

Do you think football should be treated any different than the other three sports?

And just a point of how I actually feel? If you're point is that a minimum RCAF donation, $10 per game, and a game ticket, then I agree with you.

So it sounds you think there should be no charge to park inside of Cajun Field?

"Do you think football should be treated any different than the other three sports?"

Absolutely 100% it should here and is everywhere else in the country. It drives the athletic ship.

But to answer some of your question. I do think there should be a price other than just tickets to park inside the gates. IMO they should go back to where you get a parking pass with membership to the RCAF without the additional 60 dollars for a the pass. Donations could start as low as 100 bucks annually. Depending on your level of given will determine which lot. When they did that the parking lot was at its fullest. I think RCAF membership would grow and the parking lot would fill up. There was something about that additional 60 bucks that turned people off.

im for charging to park, requiring tickets to enter or to do so would be an issue, what if they want to buy them at the gate? or they are going to meet someone who has the tickets? or what if they just want to pay $20 to go to a tailgate? My point was more to get as many people near the stadium as possible, for whatever reason, and more of them will end up in the stadium.

Ticket or no ticket in hand, create a non-pass area inside of Cajun Field and charge the $20 to park on a first-come, first-served basis. We need to start creating an atmosphere inside the gates that will potentially to get people inside of the stadium.

That shouldn’t be hard to do. Just move all the lots currently with passes up a little bit each and you create a new toll lot along Bertrand in the gravel area.

We need at least 60k tailgating to get a sellout inside the stadium. In order to do that we need the 60k to come tailgate again.

Make Cajun Field a dang party. I don’t care how they do it, just figure it out.

You are right but unfortunately, I think many on here are missing the boat as to why our tailgates aren’t packed any more. And it has nothing to do with where people park or people walking by empty parking spots and getting up set. It is not a parking thing at all.

The reason attendance is down today is because of 2 different incidents. If you look at the dates and the attendance decline I think you’ll find they coincide with one another.

The first one is the F DJT video that took place in the locker room. The video was bad enough. 18 - 22 year old misguided youth can be forgiven. But when Hud came out and basically called 60% of Louisiana a bunch of hypocrites because they voted for Trump and not Clinton that turned a lot of folks away that haven’t come back.

The next is when Billy’s team had the BLM (self proclaimed Marxist’s) march that ended at the police station that really p!$$€d some people off including the Lafayette PD. Several people have vowed to never come back after that incident.

Lafayette, like it or not, is one of the most conservative cities in America. You can’t do that kind of stuff and think it won’t have a lasting effect. Don’t believe me just ask Bud Light. I don’t know what the answer would be to get those people back but hopefully someone can figure it out.

I agree with everything you said. But don't limit it there.

Parking is too far. Parking is too expensive. Teams aren't quality. Its too hot. Its too cold. Its raining. My kids have soccer. Its planting season. The bands suck. The music sucks. The music is too loud.

    Just looking for more excuses.

    And its all complete bull____.

This is on the community. A community that is looking for excuses to not support itself.

And yes, we are a community of hypocrites.

Don't want to pay a plug nickel for it, but ______ we got some caviar tastes and appetites.

Until you bring us our free caviar and we don't like the crackers it comes on.
