Was this missed? Maybe, I just didn't see it. But this is quite huge and not just because Cajun Golfer Jake Marler won the La State amateur championship, but because 3 of our golfers finished in the top 20, including 2 top 10 finishes.
1st Jake Marler -9
10th Matt Weber +1
18th Burke Alford +5
Marler is a rising Senior who was a regular during the 2022-2023 season.
Weber is a rising Junior who was a regular during the 2022-2023 season.
Alford is a rising Junior who was not a regular during the 2022-2023 season, but did have a few appearances for the Cajuns.
If everyone returns from the NCAA team, they will only lose Charlie Flynn, who was a big piece of our SBC championship run and Hudson Dubinski who played sparingly in the 2022-2023 season. But we return Marler, Weber, Ortego and Potgieter who were regulars during the past season. As well as Matthew Lotz, the #4 ranked junior player in South Africa and Ross Anderson, Dillon Barnard and Adam Trahan to an already deep roster. I have been critical of this team in the past, but it looks like things could be looking up on the Cajuns links.
Trahan and Anderson are both Louisiana residents and participated in the 104th La Amateur Championships. Trahan just missed the cut with a two-day total of +11 and Ross Anderson finished 61st (last place of the players who made the cut) with a +32. But having 4 of our 5 players who were in the tournament making the cut and 3 in the top 20 and two in the top 10 including the Champion is a good day for Cajun golf.
Interesting note, former Saint QB Billy Joe Tolliver, not to be confused with former Saint QB Billy Joe Hobert, missed the cut.
