Napier was not the best first year head coach in program history. I don’t remember anyone singing his praises after tulane ran us out of Orlando. Dez won’t do everything like billy and I hope he wouldn’t.

Billy also didn’t have to deal with portal and NIL. Now if you push a kid too hard, he’s out the door. We saw first hand last 2 of seasons there’s plenty of homes with deep pockets for them to land.

No offense to anyone’s opinion, but the fact he’s not doing exactly what billy did is nothing that concerns me.

PS I still think the athletic department didn’t want to pay for the boarding in the dorms because we were deep in the red. Dez just fell on the sword for it.
I’ll just say this to your 2nd paragraph. No coach in America should run their program in fear of kids might enter the portal because its to tough. If you do that the inmates will run the asylum. Run your program the way you see fit to get your kids in the best physical and mental shape to play the game.

All too often, people are attacked on here for sharing their opinion, good and bad. People that think they are "in the know" feel as though they need to correct and attack other posters for sharing their thoughts on a subject. This is what has driven many posters off.

I'm not directing this at any particular poster, but a group of them.

Hopefully Dr Mags is in both Caubarreaux and Earles ears for stadium money, NIL, RCAF etc. as they both are Cajun Alumni.

I will judge this year as I did last not on wins and loses but on what I see on the field. I coached high school football for 15 years I can spot an undisciplined football team or a team that is discipline and does all the little things right without seeing a score.

I’m glad you mentioned that. We were so undisciplined that we managed to average nearly identical penalties and penalty yards per game as Napiers teams.

So I’m not 100% sure what you saw on the field to suggest we were missing discipline. Because what I saw, was 2 first year QB’s playing behind the 3rd string OL for the first 5 games. Missed assignments in blocking schemes, missed check downs by the QB early in the season all growing pains with an inexperienced team.

Defensively we were fantastic 95% of the season.

Jerry Baldwin would like to have a three hour "credentials" meeting with you from 6-9

Must be why they called him JerryBaldwin69

Thanks . . . this is what is seen with no agenda . . . the 5 or so with an agenda only want to talk about the dorms . . .

Don’t take my word on it, ask a player who played for both coaches about the changes in the process.
We had, and still have, much more talent than Rice. It was obvious comparing the two sidelines at the game. Just the LOOKS of the players.

But they took us to the woodshed. They were fired up for that game. We slept walked the whole game, even when behind. It was very frustrating to watch.

Again stats are good and all but body language and how they carry themselves on the field say a lot more. But having said that penalties weren’t exactly the same 2022 had 85 times and 2021 was 11 less. An average of nearly one more per game. If you want to look at a stat that is all about toughness and mental discipline here is one. In 2021 Napier’s team fumbled the ball a total of 10 times and lost only 4. In 2022 that was doubled 20 fumbles with 9 given to the opponent. That’s where games are won and lost. Holding on to the ball is all about mental toughness and being disciplined.

Your second paragraph is correct that’s why I said many times I give him a pass on the wins and loses. I’ve never had the record factor into my assessment.
