No one that can’t figure out a mobile ticket will be watching ESPN+ on a Roku or fire stick. Lmao.

I like this move if done to be cost saving and modernize. It’s our administration’s responsibility to be fiscally conservative. However, I learned my lesson last year when I forgot to download my tickets to my phone until game time. Cajun Field Wi-Fi didn’t allow me to access my tickets. I walked up to the ticket office to print them. It was a customer service experience I will not forget. Remember to download your tickets ahead of time and it will be easy!

I stated I’m a fan of the physical ticket because I keep them all.

But this is the way most ticketing for all events is going. Try going to a big concert now. Pro sports. Universities are going this way too. Miami just to name one is completely paperless for major sports. I can imagine most will be soon enough.

They are going to have to have physical tickets for walk ups, though, right?

You think Miami has service issues? It’s not the idea, it’s that you can’t use your phone once the band starts at the oak. It’s setting yourself up for failure…again. I tailgate right there at the main gate, trust me it’s going to be an issue until service is upgraded

I often come alone to games and usually end up giving away my extra ticket to someone at the tailgate, this is going to be a pain in the ass to transfer now. Also I'm sure we all will have to still go to the ticket office to pick up our parking passes before the season begins which means that I have to come in a day early for the first game of the season every year.

I would much rather having paper tickets, and the reason they gave that athletics is still in the hole from covid was a pretty weak excuse. Also, it really can't be that much of an extra expense since only a portion of the season ticket owners order paper tickets, so the savings can't be much especially for the number of donors that they are ____ing off.

RCAF DO THE RIGHT THING AND LISTEN TO THE FANS AND DONORS AND GIVE PAPER TICKETS TO THE PEOPLE WHO REQUEST THEM.
Just wondering? If very few people take physical printed tickets maybe the individual costs per ticket has skyrocketed?

Wait a decade or so...if the push for the PAC/"entertainment district" bears fruit. It will ALL be third party. At least that's the long range plan, including going third party on the dome. One would think attention would be paid by "planners" to the demographic history of Lafayette. The expendible household money once went downtown, then Northgate Mall/Moss area, then 70506/Acadiana Mall, now 70508/Costco. It doesn't come back, as much as the government throws money at a man made natural progression. New and shiney sells only if it is surrounded by disposable income households...living in new housing.

    Carry on, back to football.

    Probably true.

But you can go to many banks and have them print you a debit card on the spot.

Even if it takes a special printer, paper tickets have to be easier than a debit card.

Miami say on their website specifically that there’s no Wi-Fi at venues and to download tickets prior to the event.

Agreed that it’s setting up to be a huge growing pain, but it’s simple enough to adapt to. University needs to yell from the rooftops in whatever platform they have to download prior to kickoff or it’ll be a parking lot at the gate. People will eventually get it. If it doesn’t turn them off, which is just sad if mobile ticketing is someone’s last straw.

Gerry and Maggard are pretty tight. Maybe Gerry can set up a podcast to get Maggard on to get his perspective on this.

The mobile ticketing has been in the works for a while. It is now a done deal.

Unfortunatey it appears to be the same old same in regards to making sure the process has been completely thought through for all contingiences. The general vibe I am getting is that "we will deal with it".

First and foremost is the connectivity issue. Apparently they have addressed the issue with the mobile scanners. As far as general bandwidth with the major carriers (i.e. AT&T or Verizon) it is still unknown. This is a HUGE issue and if it isn't front and center for the University then they are really out of touch with their customer base.

So....University admin....you are reading this thread... I know that for a fact. Is the bandwidth, connectivity issue at Cajunfield addressed or not? If it is then shout it from the rooftops.

They should have gave a year notice before doing this. Get everyone time to adjust. I think this is going to backfire.
