Thread: Basketball is dead

  1. Default Basketball is dead

Marlin deserves 100 grand a year. It's not just dead here it's dead in the NBA but they keep paying players like it's 1998. In 1998 for game 6 of the finals 36 million people watched. A quarter century later? Just under 12 million and that's the most in 4 years. One third the audience does not deserve 10 times the pay. Marlin's crowd numbers say he is worth 100 grand.

I had no idea the NBA had dropped off that dramatically.

I looked it up, 1998 was the Jordan era.

Basketball isn’t dead. People just watch less TV. Ratings are down massively for EVERY sport.

The NBA’s CBA is based on revenue. The salary cap is based on Players get paid about 50% of total revenue. So if they are getting paid more, it’s only because the league is making more money.

And our crowd size is not an indictment of Marlin. It’s an indictment of our fan base.

But it’s both, right? It’s got to be both.

    Take a pick why:

    A. Boredom
    B. Summertime thread filler
    C. On this topic, someone may be “talking” to themselves
    D. Frustrated personal agenda is unmet
    E. Marlin was never their choice
    F. Their “love” for the program
    G. No clue
    H. Longing for what was, and in denial it isn’t coming back
    I. Any combination

It’s a little bit of both. Up until last season, if you average 6th place in a lackluster basketball conference for 4 years, people aren’t paying the money to show up. That’s not on the fans.

Create momentum going forward off of this past year, and the numbers will get better.

You need to quit reminding the folks about his meh career here. They prefer to believe his two NCAA and one NIT teams are the norm.

    NFL is up 10%

The outstanding quality buildup to the CWS finale led to an all time ratings record.

True the quality of last two games was atrocious, but you won't know that till you are firmly planted in front of the hit parade.

Point being if the matchup is compelling people will watch.

People seem to have tuned out of the NBA for some reason.

The fan base has totally indicted Marlin but Maggard refuses to convict.
