In the mid 1800's, my Great-Great Grandfather migrated from Galicia, Spain to Louisiana. So, I feel a strong connection to that region of Spain. There is only 1 Futbol Club in Galicia that is in La Liga, the Premier Division of Spanish Futbol. That is RC Celta de Vigo, or the Royal Celtic Club of Vigo.

Celta is a lot like us. They don't have a lot of money. They don't have a lot of fans. They don't have the fanciest players. Yet, they somehow remain in the highest division. They find a way. A few weeks ago, they faced relegation. To ensure that they remain in La Liga, they had to beat the mighty Barcelona. This is what happened. This is passion....

Spanish rule in Louisiana ended by 1801, but many Spanish families stayed and migration from Spain to America never stopped.

My GGGF came over in 1862. The 1800's in Spain were dominated by constant revolution and guerilla warfare. He was one of the many young men that rejected all that in favor of a fresh start in the New World. I don't know what made him choose Louisiana over South America, where most of the "Gallegos" from Galicia relocated.

It's funny. He came all the way over here to marry a girl whose family was also from Galicia. After that, I'm all Cajun.
