Thread: Louisiana Can't Escape the Will Wade Saga

  1. Default Re: LSU and OLOL

I’m almost positive this is going to be very bad for LSU athletics and the university itself. I remember hearing from some high schoolers who were friends with some of Devin White’s relatives that claimed White “worked” at a Waffle House for $25/ hour and never had to show for work. They even said he bought all of his nieces and nephews brand new PS4s. This money was possibly being funneled through the scheme at OLOL.

Now this is all speculation and hearsay, but where there’s smoke...

If the scandal is true, I would expect LSU Basketball to be decimated by this. Any harm to the football program will be temporary. They are a true blue blood in that sport and will climb back to prominence in quick order.
I really hope this story has legs. College sports is so corrupt and I would love to see some big name coaches and programs taken down.

They are in the second tier of NCAA football. Very high in the second tier, but not royalty. They are not immune to severe damage there.

If what they are saying is true....and that is still a big if at this point....than I would disagree with it not having a huge impact on everything lsu.

You know if wade was doing it, so were others, especially FB. And if they are all doing it, very very hard to think that that would not involve the admin.

The wrath that all of that coming down on them would be extremely hard to overcome, and would take a very long time to get back to where they are today.

Agreed: for all of the money they get (don't they have the top 3 budgets in ncaa?) the results have been pretty mediocre.

Now what if OLOL guy was paying players, but coaches and administration honestly didn’t know? Think about the ACT thing for us, was that coach acting in his own?

I’d imagine the NCAA would hand out some sort of penalty for “lack of institutional control”, but not as harsh as if the coach was in on it, or the AD.

With Wade being pretty much toast in that regard, the burden of proof will be shifted very strongly toward the school, rather than the NCAA. It is going to be hard to prove that they didn't know, especially if the OLOL guy rolls on them in sworn testemony in federal court.

How about some Will Wade haikus created by our friends down at the SEC Rant? (The fans of other SEC schools are grilling him)

Academically it would have little effect. LSU is already known as a sports school and a scandal in athletics would not change their academic reputation.
I know you see the apparatus around their football and baseball program. Anything other than the death penalty will be a temporary set back for those two programs. Now in basketball and other sports, I could see this as a decade long setback. LSU football has every ingredient to be successful other than they are situated in a poor state. Being the only major college football program in La with millions of TV dollars rolling in, sanctions will not keep them down long. As has been said many times before, LSU being bad at football does not help UL. We want them recruiting nationally so we can pluck up more of the LA 3 star players.

It will be interesting how this plays out. Louisiana media has never pressed LSU when it come to impropriety, but now the national media and the feds are involved. I don’t think they skate past on this one.

I know I will get blasted for this, but you would be hard pressed to find a more successful athletic program. Top 25 in all major men's sports and near the top in a lot of the minor sports. Alleva is a weasel, but he was presiding over a wildly successful program. Looks like we know how they were able to do it.
