“I was thinking last night on this Smart thing,” Yahoo's report said Wade said. “I’ll be honest with you, I’m [expletive] tired of dealing with the thing. Like I’m just [expletive] sick of dealing with the [expletive]. Like, this should not be that [expletive] complicated.”
“Dude,” Wade continued to Dawkins, referring to the third party involved in the recruitment. “I went to him with a [expletive] strong-___ offer about a month ago. [Expletive] strong.
“The problem was, I know why he didn’t take it now, it was [expletive] tilted toward the family a little bit,” Wade continued. “It was tilted toward taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid. Like it was tilted towards that. Now I know for a fact he didn’t explain everything to the mom. I know now, he didn’t get enough of the piece of the pie in the deal.”
The tape does not reference any specifics about the “offer,” if the particulars of the “offer” violated NCAA rules, if the player and/or his mother ever knew of the “offer” or if anyone accepted whatever the “offer” was.
You have two instances where Wade is caught on tape talking about previous offers he's made to recruits. Now, while it will be interesting to see how the NCAA handles this in the sense that there is no paper trail or proof that Smart received anything..yet, the school has no choice at this point but to suspend Wade and conduct an investigation. Many around the country felt they should have done this last fall when the first evidence came out. If anything, the administration allowed him to coach and recruit at their peril. Most around the country feel he should have been fired immediately.
Fans naďve enough to stick up for the man say "this doesn't mean anything" because there was no mention of particulars (cash and such.) Technically they are right, but still just in denial is you can read that and still believe Wade didn't do anything close to cheating.
The details will emerge once he's asked, under oath, what the "strong offer" was. If he foolishly denies telling the truth, it will come out some other way and Wade will not only have lost his job, but he'll be facing charges.
I'm also curious to see if the NCAA will begin an investigation into FSU who got the player that Wade had initially talked about making an offer to who ultimately did not go to LSU. You would have to assume that maybe that kid took a "better" offer?
If the first tape released was months ago and there is now a new tape, why do most people assume that’s the only thing the FBI has? I don’t think the FBI takes the chance of ruining this guys career unless they have his nuts nailed to a wall.
