"Maybe so. LSU is conducting an internal investigation into the men’s basketball program, multiple sources told Sports Illustrated. The investigation comes a day after a report from Yahoo! Sports detailed a 2017 phone conversation intercepted by the FBI in which the coach is heard discussing a “strong-___ offer” he made in the recruitment of a prospect. The school is expected to at least interview Wade and potentially LSU guard Javonte Smart, a freshman from Baton Rouge who is believed to be the subject of the latest leaked wiretaps in a much larger FBI investigation into college basketball’s recruiting practices. The school may also interview those connected with Smart. School officials were somewhat blindsided by the Yahoo! report, multiple sources say. University leaders spoke to Wade about the matter earlier this year following initial reports linking him to the FBI probe, and he assured them that what had already been made public represented the full extent of his involvement. If officials determine that Wade did not fully disclose information about an NCAA violation or committed a violation, the school can fire him for cause and owe him nothing, according to a copy of his contract obtained by SI. Officials mobilized Thursday to craft a course of action and announced on Friday that Wade had been suspended indefinitely, with assistant Tony Benford taking over as interim head coach."
Sounds like the LSU administration felt that Wade lied to them.....
It’ll be sweet if they vacate the NIT win. Call timeout on that $&@!.
More than anything, it is am embarrassment to LSU......and oh so fun to watch. The 'head in the sand' fan base seems to be more angry with Alleva for suspending WW and not covering up any wrong doing. I have also seen a ridiculous amount of the "They just hate LSU".....bla bla bla. victimization crap.
Actually you have to give their admin credit. They are doing exactly what they should be doing at this tenure. Within 24 hours of being made aware of the new allegations they suspend and announce publically they are working with the NCAA.
I would imagine not much else happens until after the SEC tournament. At which point they will then need to decide if they are going to participate in post season play. Getting out in front of this early on and taking a hit now will probably go a long way in limiting damage down the road. It appears the FBI already has Willy under the bus and LSU would do well to just leave him there.
I doubt it is going to be pretty though and envision the future of LSU basketball to include the following: Willy is gone and any instituation wanting to hire him will have to "show cause" for at least 5-10 years. Post season ban this year or next depending on what they do. Probation for three years. Reduction in scholarships (1-2) for two years.
Lets see how close I get.....
Per TD, an lsu BOS guy said that alleva and king called willy in, but he refused, per the advice of his attorney. So they had 'no other recourse' but to suspend him.
