BMag, could we ask the MVC for basketball only membership? Just an idea..
FOOTBALL: AAC
BASEBALL: SEC
BASKETBALL: MVC or A10
SOFTBALL: PAC12
It could happen..
You should then ask the question - why did LSU schedule Samford, Tennessee Martin, UNC Wilmington, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston and N. Florida? That is comparable to the teams UL scheduled - LA College, Savannah State, McNeese, Nichols, Loyola New Orleans and SE Louisiana, something Wade ridiculed.
From an upgraded scheduling standpoint, LSU scheduled Michigan, Notre Dame, Marquette, Houston and Memphis while UL scheduled Iowa, Wyoming, Richmond, Ole Miss and Clemson. Hardly much difference in scheduling OOC games. The big difference in overall schedule is conference games.
So, LSU can play the likes of Samford, Tennessee Martin, UNC Wilmington, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston and N. Florida, but can't play UL because of our RPI? Total BS!
FUPA has a press conf at one. Hopefully, it is to talk about Utah.
I totally agree with what you are saying - I was giving context to what the SEC is doing that the Sunbelt should be doing - other posters understood that - love your passion, just be careful you don't frag your own soldiers with friendly fire. I was just getting intelligence on the enemy. I have been fighting this fight since I was in grad school here in 1984 when our legally-obtained Louisiana name was stolen from us.
Everyone is talking about the three year rolling RPI and SEC having requirements related to that. I have yet to hear what the requirements are. All I have heard is Wade spat off numbers, most of which were the decent teams they play and not the SFAs of the world. What is the requirement?
That the SEC may have a directive to its member schools on scheduling and whether in fact that directive has any affect at all on whether or not LSU schedules UL are two totally different things.
1. There may be a directive that apparently has assisted SEC members to schedule in a way to achieve the goal of having more teams invited to the big dance - it appears to be working.
2. Specific application of that directive may or may not indicate whether LSU should or should not schedule UL.
3. Looking at LSU's schedule, it is readily apparent that the directive, in this case, has had absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the decision not to schedule UL.
4. LSU does not schedule UL in basketball because the powers that be there know well that the downside associated with a loss in basketball is far greater than anything else involved in the analysis.
5. In other words, they are scared of the blow back from their fans if they play us in basketball and lose, period. This is evidenced by the 5 trillion (and continuing) amount of posts which has occurred on TD about the Wednesday game, even when they won.
Wade is a dickless coward. Its that simple.
They have a mindset. They have a belief system. lsubr is the flagship. I root for the flagship. lsubr is better than anybody else in this state. I am better than anyone else. It is very similar to political correctness. There are things you just don't do or say. One of those is question the flagship or a follower of the flagship. Just like the PC world, in lsubr's world this belief system is maintained through bullying and personal destruction tactics.
Now, this belief system has taken some hits lately. Softball does not qualify. Baseball no longer rules the state with the iron fist they once did. Now, basketball has come into question. Well, they are responding like their world view is threatened.....because it is.
If ever their football program was placed in similar circumstances, the melt down would be catastrophic. I would fully expect suicides by some of them over that, and I am not kidding. This is how deep and profound their self worth is tied to the status of lsubr athletics.
