Couple of things to understand concerning Billboards. This particular board, probably has a standing contract with UL. The back side of it, is a KRVS message. Its also a Lamar board, Lamar owns the board.
Like many of you, I'd like to see these (in whatever size) pop up around the area and on the major roads in Louisiana, especially those coming into the state. Boards are sold on size and showings. Showings=the traffic that passes by each day. 100% showing etc based on the number of drivers using that road. They're also great for branding as well as direction. Too many times I've seen advertisers blow thousands of dollars on boards that are cluttered with junk. That board only has a few seconds to articulate its message....Simple and clean win the day. Which is just what we have with this board and the branding message. Even if the showings and placement occur on I-10, its a win.
Bass has mostly the digital boards...which this would be killer on.
But, its not a win if this is the only board that's used...which makes sense as that location is the gateway into the Athletic Complex.
I love the Moo State billboards I have seen in the past. "Mississippi State THE University of Mississippi"
We used to have [and I assume we still do] billboards near the state lines on I-20.
Welcome to Louisiana Home of the Ragin Cajuns.
The billboard coming into Louisiana from Mississippi on I-10 is still there. But needs to be updated. It looks like a university billboard tho. Should be bright red with the Ragin Cajuns logo.
Not to mention, it is one of the most difficult advertising mediums to measure effectiveness. It isn't an ad that is clicked and can be tracked, it isn't a coupon code that is entered and tracked.
Marketing budgets are a finite number and as such, the people that manage them need to be able to show a ROI on the spend. It would be very interesting to know how universities that invest heavily in billboard advertising measure that return.
Unless its a specific call to action on the billboard, or a number (like all 7's) you're sort of running blind with results. If a Billboard is a part of a larger campaign, then it becomes easier to track the ROI. And you're right, that is one of the negatives of using a BB. But, its a cost effective way of getting a branding message out....not to be confused with a 'turn here" BB....
Lamar ain’t no friend of UL. Any of these names ring a bell?
Hint…Cliff Newman’s partner in crime in 1984.

I'm just saying its a Lamar BB....
