Thread: UCF Requests $176M from Orange County Tourism

Default UCF Requests $176M from Orange County Tourism

See below article. Perhaps UL should get creative and approach the City of Lafayette and Lafayette Tourism Board seeking funds for the football stadium and development around Cajun Field. They will get a lot of tax revenue from the stadium, particularly if the stadium and surrounding area is developed and having year-round use. It is what UCF is doing to enhance its athletic facilities. Maybe it can work here.

New: #UCF requested $176 million from tourist tax revenue to speed up athletic facility upgrades. Read more inside:

7k people wouldn’t mind paying a tax. The other 115k is the problem.

I remember when the Master Plan was announced, and I asked Dr. Savoy and the Mayor at the time Durel if it was possible to look at adding a possible Hotel tax to help fund some of those projects. Both stated they would be looking in to that possibility, but like many things in this city it simply died a quiet death.

Big difference between Lafayette, LA and Orlando, FL.

    Just saying.

If there were never any roadblocks to Fossil Fuels since the 70's, things would be different. WE would have a donor base to go after silly money like UCF can.

Absolutely, but Lafayette lives off of tourism as well. It would have to be approved by the Legislature and this has been done many times in New Orleans and in recent years in Lake Charles before the hurricane devastation.

I don't believe it would have happened because the leadership at that time was scared that athletics would become too big at this university.

They already have a new stadium? And ther old stadium is still available. Geez. Three stadiums?
The stadium opened in 2007 as a replacement for Camping World Stadium (then known as the Citrus Bowl) in Downtown Orlando, where the Knights had played since their inaugural season in 1979.[

And that same mentality appears to still be present in Martin Hall.
