The property owners of Tanglewood Terrace and Oaklawn subdivisions would have a say about development in their backyards.

Joey Durel’s best move for our community, set a model for the future. The issue going forward is when a proposal gets voted down. LCG needs to be very prudent in calling such an election. The airport was a no brainer.

Ucf having 68000 students probably gives them a little clout

If its a Parish tax, wouldn't it just need the Parish Council approval?

The difference between the airport tax and this concept is the airport is an actual animal with taxing authority (it has a property tax). It also has a commission which made the push and did all of the leg work to advocate for the tax, which wentot pay for its facility (owned by a parish entity).

UL would have to make a push to have a Parish tax (temporary or otherwise) that would make improvements on what is basically a state facility.

But here's a thought that wouldn't require a tax increase.

The State has a 4% sales tax. Have the State temporarily forsake some of that 4% (say 1%) for the improvements at Cajun Field. Not only would there NOT be a tax increase, but the State would be paying for the improvements at its own facility.

What about an increase in tourism taxes like hotels and rental cars that are paid moreso by visitors rather than local citizens? A small hike in those taxes would not likely affect occupancy, but could go a long way to helping UL.

Pickens’ $165 million donation to OSU athletics in 2005 was the single largest gift for athletics in NCAA history. He followed that with a $100 million gift to OSU in 2008 to endow major faculty chairs and professorships, and when OSU launched its Branding Success campaign in 2010, Pickens again led the charge with a $120 million gift.

Pickens name attached carried value too. 120 mill for “branding”; we can’t get united on the simple basics.

Pickens died a few years ago.

This is T-Boone's Foundation, which implies there will be more in the future.
