Thread: 2023 CWS

  1. Default Re: 2023 CWS

Doesn't seem very patriotic to recruit someone away from serving their country

The part of this thread about there only being baseball talent in the south is not aging very well in the first two rounds of the MLB draft . . .

"They may have some talent up there, but they don't have the work ethic and the grind, and their contribution to the team chemistry in the clubhouse is lacking to gel with their teammates from the south"- signed anonymous southern sportscaster

Wowzer, of the four from the SE, zero played college ball

Fun fact braves wanted to draft van poppel instead of jones but he said he didn't want to play in SE for braves. Van poppel is from illinois

Maybe he was born in Illinois, but Todd Van Poppel was a high school pitcher in Texas. I saw him pitch in person as a high schooler.

His contract demands were too high for the Braves so they took Chipper Jones.

A’s took a flyer on Van Poppel further down the line and negotiated a deal with him to sign.

One of the best things that happened for the Braves in retrospect

Cool. And not many choose A's over anyone anymore, lol.
But as far as texas, a. Surprisingly underrepresented in the data and b. Arlington not exactly the southeast.
    C. Does texas count as southwest or southeast?

In 1973 Dave Winfield made his mlb debut on 14 days after being drafted. He was also playing postseason ncaa basketball until Mar 22. The draft was June 5th. He didn't play year round, Only two full months of only baseball

Seems the obvious answer for turbines jul4 tv dilemma should be MLB all star game. Currently at the all star game most teams have played more than 90 games. The halfway point should be 81 ergo push ASG back a week and get teams closer to 81 games played and have the patriotic fest and real half way point.
