Hell, we did it in football with Napier. He came out of left field...well...for those of us not "in the know". It worked.

Leger knows how to succeed on the mound as a player. He was one of the best in the entire country during his time here. I think it's a well-taken risk to see if that experience can overcome any lack of experience in the coaching ring.
Nice post. I think it is also worth a try.

Putting in his time to make the big time.

Can Justin teach a new softball pitch? I think there would be few better at pitch placement, but here is where I think Gunner will shine.

Gunner will be able to add to the repertoire of every pitcher he coaches.

We will not be better in 2024.

We will build the baddest F'N Program in America.

From what I understand, he has found a way to work some baseball mechanics into the softball pitching mechanics . . . Karley Heath’s dad told me that Justin has done things with her to dramatically improve effectiveness . . . His words . . . Not sure how I could ever repay Justin for what he has done for Karley . . .

All of this is moot if they don’t let him run the staff. We could hire Leo Mazzone but if Deggs doesn’t let his pitching coaches coach without meddling, it won’t matter one bit.

He famously told Tony, “Keep Bab away from my hitters.” In my best Bernie voice: Matt, I am once again asking you, stay away from our pitchers..

And I say that with all due love and respect.

For the record, I love the hire. Just sick of the thin skin where anything not overly positive is considered bashing.

Hell, some complain about how high some of our standards are yet will say we just hired Leo Mazzone (MAT I was about to use him in an example earlier and got a laugh out of you using him).

For the record I also like the hire and hope it works out. GL getting hired really shouldnt surprise anyone. UL has had a history of using the hiring practice of the good old boy system. As JD said this could really pay off down the road.
