Thread: Gunner Leger Back on Board

  1. Default Re: Gunner Leger

Wasn’t it announced that Wells may be taking another position, possibly as a head coach somewhere . . .

    In addition to Wells?

Glad to have Gunner on staff. If what he did on the mound is any indication of how he will coach, it's safe to say that our pitching will not only improve, but thrive. Mix that in with our hitting system, and that is ripe for a massive run.

At least give credit to Kendall Rogers when you copy his tweet word for word

    This is a good move.

While unrelated, this is another much requested worry (here on RP) that is addressed in fine manner by Coach Deggs.

    Thanks

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are reportedly bringing back former pitcher Gunner Leger as pitching coach.

Really excited about this hire but let’s try to be realistic.

Pros - Thoroughly knows and buys into the Tony Robichaux pitching model. Bleeds Vermilion and will give everything to this program, just like he did in his playing career. Embodies the cULture.

Cons - No D1 coaching experience. This could have an impact with existing players and recruiting. Recruiting will be vital for GL. Not only does he need to evaluate well, but then sell players on coming. Lastly, being young, how will he ‘stand his ground’ with Coach Deggs. I know CMD has huge respect for GL, but could still look to bulldoze him on occasion.

Overall, I think this is a solid double as a hire, with grand slam upside. I think some patience will be needed as he grows into the role, but expect him to be very productive from Day 1.

From the sound of this title, he won't be recruiting. Yes, he'll be in contact when recruits visit but I don't think he will be on the road recruiting.
