we have gotten them to games over and over again and the game day experience sucks horribly. We drop the ball every time we have a good crowd, how many times you want to give the casual fan a crappy experience and expect them to return? We have had hundreds of thousands of different people attend games, we can't ever keep them. We run out of water and cold beer and bathroom floors are covered in ____. You spend a whole quarter, sometimes more, waiting in line.

You hear it all the time. Hell, we can attest to it. Lafayette and the Acadiana area are very proud of what they have. People LOVE local. Whenever you read an interview with someone from Lafayette you can imagine that a couple of things are constant. "What do you like to do in your spare time?" "I like to spend time with my family, fish, eat at local restaurants and enjoy all the local festivals around town."

I heard it again this morning on a few different radio shows. The Eat Lafayette campaign is happening again and it's pretty cool. The radio hosts mentioned how much they love to eat local.

Would it not be easy to do something like "Football Local? Or #FootballLocal? I don't know. Something to appeal to what we all know is a trendy town that will show up in absolute droves for festivals, DTA, RRR, and over run restaurants. They used to show up in force for UL football a decade ago. We know we can do it.

I grew up going to Oakland A's games in the oakland coliseum, the biggest dump in MLB right now. It was the place to be in the bay area for baseball. This was in the late 80's through 90's. The San Francisco Giants had old Candlestick park and despite some nice winning teams didn't have the excitement of Oakland. Then they built the new ballpark and became THE FRANCHISE in the bay area. Oakland despite winning teams never had the same excitement and was never the place to be after the Giants built that new stadium. They grabbed all the up and coming fans because everyone wanted to be at that new park, whether it was drinking at the nearby bars pregame or a part of something new and exciting.

What we have now at Cajun field is the current oakland coliseum, we may have winning seasons like the A's have had but the product gameday is stale and everyone knows what to expect. I'm telling ya'll, a new stadium done right with an improved gameday experience changes EVERYTHING!!!!! I really think Lafayette and Acadiana is just bored with the experience for football, results irrelevant as proven under Napier. We need to reinvent the football experience and make it the place to be!

UL football has to grab the attention of Acadiana. An SEC school 40 miles east is not our biggest competitor for 30k fans. It is the entertainment options in Lafayette that is our competition. We have to be the entertainment place to be for 6 weekends a year in Lafayette! It's not even about the game results when you talk about 20-30k fans, it's about are people having a good time at your event?

It's mentioned in the email I got about UL Season Tickets..."Season ticket holders are eligible for exclusive experiences.." Anyone have an idea of what those are? Is that the number one reason publically given to buy UL FB Season Tickeds? You have to give consumers of any product a REASON to buy that product other than the obvious.

All those folks who got hyphonated titles a few weeks ago, in large part, have been here a year or more...So, what are we looking at. Where are the new CF features, what are the benefits, and when are they going to be announced, cause your selling season tickets NOW, why wait...Are there changes happening with RCAF? What are those and how does the casual or new fan benefit from them.

Its marketing, not brain surgery. This isn't that difficult...

BTW, LSU v FSU will be an espn game, that kick off will conflict with CF kickoff, expect the normal, "LSU is on TV..." excuses.

This school lives in a world filled with excuses and is happy to do so...

They haven't tried since 1982. (Sans Hud)

1982 was the year The Foster Agency came up with HOT STUFF "Seasoned Tickets"

Louisiana Hot Stuff (the store) stems from that drive.

Unfortunately, it was so successful some non-original tried to make the hot pepper the schools whole identity but that is for another story.

Louisiana NEEDS a massive ticket drive.

People having a terrible experience when spending their entertainment dollars and not returning isn't an excuse, its common sense. If people have a terrible experience at a restaurant or bar they usually don't return. People don't owe the university their entertainment money.

    Now reality.

They are not 45 miles away from any P5 program, nor are they close to any program that has won multiple national championships since 2000.

App St. is 102 miles from Charlotte, 167 miles from Durham, 189 miles to Raleigh and 163 miles from Chapel Hill.

An interesting comparison would be UL and Ohio University where Ohio State is the big dog in that state like LSU is here. Ohio is Carnegie R1, has a Med School, has 28,000 students, is the oldest university in Ohio, and has several branch campuses. It is in the MAC with 5 other universities in Ohio (Bowling Green, Miami, Kent State, Akron and Toledo), not to mention Cincinnati and other FBS schools. And, it is only 65 miles from Columbus. It has an indoor practice facility and a 24,000 seat football stadium that it rarely fills. Ohio had only 38,530 total attendance in 2022 and 38,920 in 2021. That is an avg of less than 6,500 per game. One has to wonder how they survive with those attendance figures and what Ohio is doing or not doing to increase attendance and support for their program.

It’s like “Friday Night Lights”…generational which turned into traditional behavior. USL/UL never had a plan they could stick to.

Look no further than the Ragin Cajun Club, then years of nothing and now RCAF.

    All bark, no bite.

Yeah, State is down the road. And yes, Huey gave us junior colleges (now universities)to the west and south that are basically an hour or so away. But nothing has ever been done to market and keep engagement 24/7/365.

Can’t even stay on task with the biggest PR move…Louisiana as a shorten name.

I went to the game a few years ago, and most of the tailgates and pregame parties had OSU flags, chairs, etc., And surprisingly a few LSU flags. Athens is a fun town and GameDay was a blast, but, like Lafayette, it belongs to another school.
